WinDVD BD for Vaio Update Problems

HELP PLEASE

Vaio update installed WinDVD BD 8.8.0.154 and it wouldn't play Blu Rays anymore (DVDs would play).

Sony support suggested that I uninstall the software and use Vaio recovery to install the original software but there was an error 505:41.

Reinstalling everything (including the OS) from scratch is not an option. Now I'm left with no DVD/BD software.

I'd like to get the previous version of the WinDVD software back (8.0-B20.185) can anyone help ???

Thanks,

Gary

PS System is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

The combination of the following facts is indeed totally frustrating for Sony customers:   1/ the OEM software comes ONLY as part of the full system install. Any reason to reinstall it and you have to go back to the day the machine was purchased ... loosing all the specific configuration, software installation etc. And this technical nightmare is of course due to OEM licensing.   2/ some Sony updates themselves are corrupting the software. It is not that the end us has dine anything wring or uninstall it but just applying a Sony update may cause the problem.  3/ ...in which case it appears that Sony is NOT trying to recognize the issue they cause and they even don't confirm that the issue is indeed registered as a problem for which a patch will be prepared in top priority,  What a pity!    This given said, as this type of nightmare situation happened to me once, I was careful and decided NOT to install this Corel update before evidence that it succeeds. At this stage, I will keep it on standby unless somebody confirms that the update works...

Another FW31J user here with the same issue. I don't think there's anything further for me to say that hasn't been said already. Bit of a joke to have to buy additional software or re-install from scratch to get my Blu-Ray playback back.

My first and last Sony laptop at this rate.

I have been trying to install this update (WinDVD BD Update 8.8.0.154) on my VAIO AW11XU/Q using VAIO update for the past two weeks without success. After another failed attempt to install it tonight I came to this forum to find out what is wrong.

After reading the posts here it looks like I have been lucky and perhaps I will just ignore this update and allow the previous version to remain.

At the same time I am curious as to why my VAIO will not accept the update. All other VIAO updates over the 2 years that I have owned my VAIO have been routine without any such problems. VAIO update trys for about 1 minute to install then the update moves to the lower box titled "Updates which failed to install."

Besides this minor problem, I love my VAIO VGN AW11XU/Q which I have been using heavily for 2 years now without any other serious problems during that time. I am not really a BD user so I can do without this update.

I still believe that my VAIO AW11 was the best laptop available worldwide (albeit one of the most expensive) when I purchased it in June 2009. No other laptop even comes close for screen perfection (1920 X 1080 pixel X-black matte LCD with RGB 3-chip technology) and sheer usefulness.

Hello all fellow Sony Vaio peeps with same issue :slight_frown:

I have the same problem now since this update, Vaio VGN-FW21E with Windows 7.

I too have even just done a factory re-install to default and have had still no joy at all.

I did buy Power DVD and this only seems to play about half of my BluRays :slight_frown:

WTF Sony I know you a big Corp. but I in my houshold have laptops, PSP`s Playstations... other random Sony items also from over the years.... AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH get it sorted plz this is not a big issue, just admit the update and licences have been screwed up, offer us a free product code or voucher for say Power DVD Pro which I belive maybe works or any other softwear which you know works and that would make us all happy. I Have now spent hundreads of hours since this first update rolled out in April, and have done a complete re-install to no effect... If I was to just get one e-mail which just said we understood, here have this voucher product code for something that works I would be a happy bunny.

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING SONY EVER AGAIN AND SINCE THIS ISSUE HAVE TOLD ALL THE PEOPLE I KNOW TO NOT DEAL WITH YOUR COMPANY, AGAIN THE HACK LAST MONTH ALSO SUPPORTS HOW THEY JUST USE NORMAL PEOPLE AS BETA TESTERS AND DO NOT VALUE THIER LOYAL CUSTOMERS FROM MANY YEARS... FACT I KNOW TWO MY FRIENDS WHO BOUGHT A HP LAPTOP SINCE THIS ISSUE STARTED AND I ADVISED THEM AGAINST SONY PRODUCTS. I ALSO GOTTEN AN XBOX AND NINTENDO DSI WHEN THE HACK HAPPEND LOL.... TRAIDED IN MY PS3 AND PSP AT GAME....

YOUR LOSS SONY...

I'm another one who needs help with this issue. My vaio laptop played blue rays fine before I installed this update (8.8.0.154) and now it doesn't, it will only play normal DVD's.

I was really happy with my vaio and the fact that it played blue ray was one of the main reasons I opted for the more expensive model. Also, the fact that it was an update directly from sony that has caused it to stop working makes it more infuriating!

I am not really knnowledgable about the workings of a computer so there's no way I would attempt to uninstall and reinstall everything including the O.S., I would probably end up with many more problems.

I think sony should be able to fix it in much the same way as they broke it; i.e. give me an update to download that will fix the problem.

If anyone knows a simple fix for this problem then please let me know. :slight_frown:

I installed everything again and to my surprise, it´s still not working,

With the previous version of Win DVD installed, it asks for the ASCI key. When I try to update it, it says that it can´t be updated, probably because there´s the new version of the programme. So I had all the trouble to install everything again and it still doesn´t work.

What else can I do??? :slight_frown:

Has anyone managed to get anywhere with this?  I have downloaded the update which asked me to authorise it to remove the exisiting version of Win DVD. I assumed this was so it would insert a new version.  BIG MISTAKE!!!!  It burns the programme from the machine.  I called Sony who talked me through a "solution" which discovered the Win DVD programme in the machine and which zapped it too!  I was then told that there must have been a glitch on the download and that i'd have to do a factory reset. Very reluctantly I did, downloaded the patch again and guess what?  it tried to remove the programme again.  This is a total disgrace.  I will not under any circumstances buy another Sony laptop.  I would recommend that all people who have experiences this leave detailed feedback on these laptops and Sony's after sale "service" on Amazon.
