XL100 - No sound with Vista

I upgraded my XL100 to Vista Home Premium this weekend and everything went fine except I now get no sound from the sound card and the TV tuner card is also not recognised by media center. (I'm less bothered about the TV tuner part but do want sound!)

I have been to http://support.vaio.sony.ie/downloads/os/vista/upgrade.html and updated all the drivers but still no success.

I use the avermedia card with picture coming from the HDMI port and sound from the coaxial port.

Any ideas on how to resolve this would be much appreciated otherwise I will have to go back to XP 😕

Thanks!

Hi grahamsf and welcome to Club Vaio.

Try Uninstalling your Audio from Device manager and re-boot. I think you have to let Vista install its own generic HD driver then go to Device Manager, right-click on the HD Audio and choose Update Driver. Choose to update manually and point the wizard at the directory you have downloaded the Sony Vista Sigmatel driver to.

Try the same for the TV Tuner.

Let me know how you get on because if there is a fault in the new driver, I will escalate this to Sony.

Hello
I had the same problemS still the same with the tuner card not found by MCE
but I was lucky to find updates at Sony for Vista and the one for Sigmatel allowed me to use a SPDIF CONNECTION THAT WORKS FINE WITH MY AUDIO RECEIVER YAMAHA
Uninstall card restart and reinstall with downloaded update
Hope it helps
Iam very pissed off by the fact I cannot use my double tuner card ftom Pinnacle it was fine some days ago I dont know who is going to elp Sony Microsoft or Pinnacle
Good luck

Hi jeanskulter and welcome to Club Vaio.

Pinnacle have given a pledge to produce patches for all current products so you will have to wait for them.

I see they have already published some HERE but not for the two Dual DVB products.

This worked! The trick was removing the old driver file completely from the pc as windows kept finding it. When it was removed, after rebooting winodws found a new driver and installed it - now I have sound!

The same doesn't work for the TV tuner card. It fails to find a driver and won't accept the driver on the sony website (for the Avermedia A16E although the device is actually an A16C). I don't user the TV tuner though so I don't care about this. Other people may have problems though!

Thanks for your help!

Hello, first post! Got an RC204 a few months ago, recently installed Vista Ultimte (well, it was there.) Took a little while, but I've now got everything working except the TV card (Avermedia).

Hi grahamsf and welcome to Club Vaio.

Let me know how you get on because if there is a fault in the new driver, I will escalate this to Sony.

If you have that power, I would be extremely grateful if you would use it. Cheers!

Hi grahamsf, jeanskulter and rob72,

To get the TV tuner card Avermedia A16C working under Vista, you just need to use the XP drivers provided by Sony on the XL100. The drivers are located in C:\Drivers. Then the TV tuner works perfectly with Vista Media Center.

Good Luck

The link on the vista upgrade page points to the A16E driver which Vista can't recognise however there is a A16c driver in the ftp folder
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/VistaUpgrade/Drivers/TVTuner

Anyone tried that?
