Charging the MDR-XB650BT

Does anyone know if it's safe to charge the MDR-XB650BT headphones using a USB socket in a UK mains plug. The socket gives out a charge of 2.1A = 5V.

The manual advises using the supplied micro-USB cable connected to a computer. You can find more details here.
