GTK-PG10 - The party speaker for indoors and outdoors.

Since the moment I first saw this device in a press email I couldn't put it together. I had my pleasure testing this speaker for the last few days. And still have very mixed feelings.

TheGTK-PG10 comes compactly packed, with power cable and manual, everything you need, (?) I'll come back to the content later.  The setup as usual with Sony is very easy. Connect on the device with your mobile phone/walkman/bluetooth device and the party can start. Very handy (my wife disagrees) is the pop up message after pairing that there are apps that can be installed. I already have both. But not everyone knows them, so I find this tip very handy. The speaker has everything you need to play music on board. Bluetooth, radio, a USB plug for a USB device (also for charging) and a traditional audio connection are included - very good.

The control panel is very easy to read and easy to use. Practical is the water protection, even if it only protects against splashes. And it is only this panel that is protected so you should be careful at poolside parties. The display shows the most important information, in strong sunlight it is difficult to read, it disturbs, but not because I can see all the information on the mobile phone.

Let's get to the sound. Here I was very positively surprised at how good the speaker sounds. I've already tested a few devices, one or the other speaker is also at home, so I can say that the GTK-PK10 deserves great praise for the sound quality. Especially when the "party table" is folded out and the tweeters are used.

And that brings me to the most important "feature" of this audio system. And that's where I start to doubt. Of course, I may not have understood the concept. It can also be and I'm just too old (just 34) for parties. After unfolding the two sides. A parking space appears. You can put down 4 cups, bottles or cans, and they won't "dance" away if the bass vibrates too much. The surface structure is perforated but still quite smooth. There is enough room for a few bottles, chips or other snacks. According to information in the manual, this "table" can be loaded with up to 10kg, what does a crate of beer weigh? LOL.

I found another field of application, more about that later.

The loudspeaker can be used as a karaoke station, a microphone connection

and some cool sound effects are built in. I can well imagine that as soon as the crate of beer is empty, they will be used. Pure partyfealing. Let's get back to the content. 3 items which I would like to see in a MK2 version.

  1. A microphone - I already criticized the same with the MHC-V71D. A microphone produced in large quantities costs a few Euro. Sony please throw a microphone into the package.
  2. A mobile phone or tablet holder as with other devices a narrow Ritz where I can park my mobile phone is enough. Now I have simply misused the holder of the antenna and the antenna as a mobile phone holder. But it is not what is needed. Please touch it up.
  3. The speaker has a hole at the bottom - a tripod holder. But it will only work with a special speaker tripod. The idea is good, but is there another way? Is there any way I can use my photo tripod? I don't know what the best solution is, I buy, but I don't like to buy additional accessories, which are then only compatible with one device. Maybe adjust the outside dimensions to a crate of beer. And erect a tower out of such a box. Would be something, too.
  4. I know it should be three points. When the upper part is closed, it serves as a practical holder for transportation. It's just stupid that I need two hands to transport it safely. The loudspeaker is very robustly built, which does not mean that it is too heavy to be transported with one hand.

In itself it is a very good loudspeaker, which definitely heats up every party and drives every neighbour to madness. Even when music is played loudly, it sounds clean and the built-in battery lasts forever. There's nothing to complain about here.

As I already indicated, I didn't quite get the idea of turning it off. So I simply used it as a landing platform for my drone. Flying with cool music, why not.

In my opinion I prefer a normal Bluetooth loudspeaker, some of Sony's are waterproof, and with cool light effects. Unfortunately the PK10 don’t have them. Therefore, as a conclusion, the speaker is worth its money, it delivers what Sony promises, only I think it is still some place for improvement. As always, I'm looking forward to your questions and feedback.
