I bought mine a week ago in the US. At the time my iPhone XS was updated to iOS 13.0, and it all worked quite well, including calls. However, after installing iOS 13.1 I've had problems receiving calls on GSM, or VoIP. I can make calls on GSM but the mic doesn't always switch on. Otherwise, music playback on iPhone works well, and Bluetooth connection is strong. I used them on a cross Atlantic flight and found the ANC worked well in drowning out the sound from the aircraft engines and reduced to a bearable degree the noise from babies a few rows behind. With regard to call quality I found that by turning off the Ambient Sound Control before making call and my contact could hear me clearly, from indoors with little or no ambient noise.
My conclusion from all this adventure is that Sony hasn't yet created firmware updates for iOS 13.0 or 13.1. It gets better, Apple just released another update, iOS 13.1.2. The big question is whether to install this and if it will help or further deteriorate the functioning of the earbuds.... Otherwise need to manually connect bluetooth on iPhone, and have had to reset the earbuds a few times as they get a bit buggy. Any thoughts or experiences shared are appreciated
13.1.2 is intended to resolve the Bluetooth issues created by 13.1 as described in the release notes. My WF's
are working fine with 13.1.2 after re-pairing.
My issues has been with fitment of the buds. My right ear is not suited to the tips that Sony provide so I bought some tips with a helix. I have since purchased a set of bespoke tips. Frustratingly I have connectivity issues with the non Sony tips..... or so I thought. Sony have said that the tips should not affect connectivity however something is happening to cause disconnection. I've used an iPhone and a Samsung S8 to check that it is not Bluetooth issues.
Having turned the pauses when headphones are taken off "off" and disabled the auto power off I am not getting disruption any more. It would appear that whatever sensor/algorithm Sony have for detecting removal so fine that it treats having an oversized tip as being removed. One to watch out for if you do use alternate tips.
Beyond this I've been quite impressed with the move from my Bose Q20s. And although expensive, with the bespoke tips there is an excellent seal which was one of the positives of the Bose wired units.
Also, being a recent iPhone user I had a separate MP3 player to get a headphone socket without resorting to dongles.
Only just started playing with the equaliser function …..
Thanks for sharing. Have you tried making receiving calls? If your iPhone is on discoverable will the connection establish automatically when you put on the earbuds? I'm having to manually connect via the iPhone settings.... Thanks
