Hi all,
My C905 shows up on my local wireless network, however when I try to browse it from my Windows machine, it asks for a username and password. I can't see anywhere on the phone to change this setting. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Disappointed at no response. I was really hoping to get this sorted. Is it a lost cause?
So you connect to your router over wifi and have file sharing enabled on your phone, in order to open the phone's files on PC? Am I on the right track?
That's about right. There is some functionality: for instance, I can surf the Internet on my phone using the wireless router connection. Network sharing is turned on for the local [secured] wireless network.
At the PC end, my XP computer is set up on the same workgroup as the phone. When I browse the workgroup, I can see the C905 device. When I attempt to open it, though, Windows prompts me for a user name and password: I can't get any further than this.
Is Password protected sharing on your PC's Network and sharing centre disabled?
That seems to be a Vista way of doing things; I'm running XP. There is an XP setting called 'simple file sharing,' which was turned off on my computer, so I tried turning it on. Windows still asks me for a password when I browse to the C905, but now the user name field is greyed out and reads "LAPTOP\Guest". I don't know if this is helpful. I enclose a screen grab.
I'm assuming that leaving the password field blank doesn't work, so have you tried using the phone's name (C905 or other to which you may have changed it to) as the password? Alternatively, you could try using the phone's IP or MAC address, both of which you can find in the phone's wifi settings.
Or, if none of these work, perhaps just typing in Administrator may do the trick.Let me know.
Sorry guys for jumping into this topic. However, I guess iamgrim is not the only one who experiences this problem
I have never been able to connect to the phone from Win as it is asking for the user credentials. Moreover, the connection see to be playing funny as from time to time Win can't find the mobile :smileyhappy:.
In the same time, the phone can be accessed without any credentials from linux, just by typing smb://c905 , although still every now and then phone can't be found.
Network sharing would be a great feature, just if I could get it to work reliably
Haven't had any problem connecting to Win Vista over wifi with my W995, although sometimes it can't open the phone's files, something which is resolved by disconnecting/reconnecting the wifi connection.
I finally got it to work, really only by accident. I deleted the WiFi network connection from the phone. Then I re-added it. Then it worked, so I can access all the files, and it doesn't prompt for any usernames or passwords or what-have-you.
Obviously this doesn't really shed any light on the cause of the problem, but there you have it. Thanks for trying, anyway.
