How do I STOP app's trying to update when there is no WiFi/internet cannection?

This is driving me crazy; I get a WiFi signal for a short time, & the Sony app's installed on my phone (which I do not even use!!) start trying to update - & this goes on & on for hours even after the WiFi signal has gone. It's wasting my battery but I cannot make it stop trying to update when there is no internet connection. I cannot see anything in 'settings'; but I thought I had set it not to update automatically, but to always ask me.

Ideally I would like to uninstall all these stupid Sony app's that I have no use for, but I cannot; & even when I set them back to the factory version & try to turn off updates; they still keep trying to update!

So you are talking about apps from update centre?

Yes - I mean things like Google Newstand; Google Play Movies etc - which has now been trying to update itself for about 4 hours - but there is no WiFi connection here & I refuse to use up my internet allowance to update a stupid app that I never use! I even went into Apps manager & clicked 'uninstall updates'; 'replace with Factory version' - then I switched my phone off & on, but it is STILL trying to updare itself!

? Sorry I don't understand this response; I'm not trying to select auto-update - I am trying to STOP auto-update! I never asked it to update itself; it is doing it on it's own!

I know, from google play settings you can select auto update to never.

Thanks - but where is this please? In 'Apps manager' the only options for each of the Apps is 'Force stop' or 'uninstall updates'. (or clear data/cache). There is nothing about setting when any updates should install?

I absolutely have to stop this now; I even switched on my network internet connection so it would simply finish the update & then stop, but it is STILL going on & on & on, endlessly trying to install this update! It's running down my battery & I am sick of it.

Can you access google play app? There are some settings (either on the left side or if you tap the third button on the S).

sadly u have only one option left buddie/...that is go to app manager>download manager or related app like this and stop that and it will stop all the updating apps from google play and u can try force stop of play store also!!

Thanks both; I have tried EVERYTHING! Nothing works...

There is nothing in the Google Play app to make anything stop; so I went into every single one of the stupid Google apps - play/movies/TV/news, blah blah - & I 'force stopped' them all; then did 'uninstall updates'. Then I even clicked on this idiot 'Google play movies & TV' update that is trying to download & I force stopped the Download manager - then I switched off the internet connection - and the idiot thing is STILL trying to download an update! I cannot believe this; almost all my battery has gone down with this thing; HOW can I make it stop trying to download?!

As I said I switched on the internet & tried to allow it to finish the download; but after an hour it was still downloading.

There must surely be a fault here...?
