Glove mode is based on a touch screen digitizer that is specially made for glove mode type of function. Touch screen digitizer is the front part of the display takes touch inputs and behind it is the LCD. It's a thin glass. For glove mode to work, the digitizer has both self capacitance and mutual capacitance combined. Mutual capacitance is present in all touch screen phones and enables multi touch function. Self capacitance creates strong input signals which is why a finger can be detected on top of screen without touching.
So in other words, unless someone makes such a touch screen digitizer for the Z1, glove mode is not possible.
