Transfer Apps from Phone to SD Card

Just bought a Xpeia Z2, First Android I've had!

I've got all my music, videos and photos saved on my SD card..
But the 16GB Internal memory is already half full from apps/games and I don't even have that many installed yet.

How can I download apps to/Transfer apps to the SD card so I an use the whole 64GB of memory.

Thanks.

Sure u want Samsung S5? S5 has only 8.65GB internal storage and they had the least among all current phone. Yes you may transfer some apps but most you can't. It's Google decision not to allow apps transfer to SD card and it's the same for all phones running 4.4 or higher. The other alternative is to go for Apple. Your choice.

It's not google limitation. As you can see Sony just gave this feature for Xperia T2 users, we Z2 users are expecting the same as it is possible:

We do not know whether we will receive this functionality or not, but it would be really nice.

Again, only some apps, like on Samsung devices. Most apps cannot be transferred.

We will get the update as soon as October's flagship's are done getting the latest version of KK.

I guess we should be interested in moving only huge apps like game that require hundreds of MB or over 1GB of storage, right? Smaller apps just fit in internal memory fine.

@alexdon, that's not correct.

Samsung for example has the option baked in, plus, key to the point, Sony have added it back in to the lower end phones, but not the higher end Z1, Z2, which they need to.

On a vanilla (nexus) Android device to move the app, you go to settings/applications/all applications. If the button to move the application to SD card is white then you can move that app to the SD card.

What has changed is that for SOME apps, they dont support being moved, so they stay on internal, for the better written apps, by better develops, they allow it.

Now do get Sony to allow us to do this and remove the up swipe for what's new, and it would be a perfect phone!

Google made it not easy and restricted it for its own devices because of more user profiles on one phone.

This could be no problem because theoretically and technically it' s possible for all phones and apps. But the Phone manufacturers and app developers must activate this possibility on their own.

Only T2 ultra can do it from the newer devices, and not all apps can be moved, just check T2 ultra section.

@Alexdon, that's the key change, some apps don't work well from SD card, some do.

So the app can flag if it's ok to be moved.

Sony has removed this functionality on Z1 and Z2, despite android supporting it.

Android was being criticised, as it was possible to put a very slow cheap sd card into a phone, move all the apps to it, and then have problems with the apps/phone performance.

What they should have done, is had 3 levels of performance.

1/ Internal - storage must be this quick for android to install onto it.

2/ App storage - fast sd cards. - apps can be moved to it, (as long as the app is designed to)

3 Slow external storage, find for video/photos etc, but would come with a warning if it's too slow.

They didn't they just killed external storage, got lots of complaints and sort of put it back.

Except if you're sony...they left it out still 🙂
