Could somebody tell me which operating system the Aino runs on please?
I want to signup to Fring which allows the user to make cheap international calls, but in the FAQ @ http://www.fring.com/fringout/faq/, it states that only Nokia Symbian S60, iPhone & Android devices are supported. Does the Aino run on any of those?
Thanks in advance.
No, I'm afraid not.The Aino runs only on the proprietary, Java operating system.
No
The Aino™ runs a Java based platform, you may also see it called A300.
Oh...that's not what I wanted to hear although I suspected as much because in many Aino reviews I read while searching for info, the specs indicated the OS as "Other".
Thanks anyway (and to Annie too).
There are other apps you can use on Java phones for cheaper calls, such as Minifring, Nimbuzz, FreeCalls and others.Have a look on Getgar.com and on the Playnow/SE website.
Yes, I looked at those already. But, haha...here's the problem. My girlfriend who lives in Thailand has the same Aino phone as me, but she lost her PC-to-phone connector, so I gave her mine. So now I don't have any means of transferring an application to the phone.
There are several companies in the Netherlands that offer cheap international calls by first dialling premium rate numbers (0900 numbers), but I've read horror stories of people being charged exhorbitant sums which don't match the charges advertised on the respective websites, so I'm a bit wary about using them.
I really prefer companies that don't require a program to be installed in order to make calls.
I shall persevere.;)
Thanks anyway.
You can download applications directly from your phone's web browser or via Bluetooth from your PC, if your PC is enabled for this.
That's a thought, at least as far as downloading apps from the web.
But I have a barebones version of the Aino unfortunately which doesn't include the Bluetooth accessory. I lumbered myself with a two year subscription to T-Mobile in the Netherlands which included a gratis phone, but I didn't look closely at the specs when I signed up. So I was rather disappointed when I opened the box to discover that it only included a set of headphones, a battery and a charger and the PC connector.
I don't think there is such thing as a "bluetooth accessory". The Aino is equipped with bluetooth, the only thing you will need is a PC with bluetooth too.
BTW .. how do you think to be able to use a VOIP connection without installing VOIP software on your mobile phone? Minifring is a good option (I haven't used it on the Aino yet, but I use it on my HTC).
Another suggestion: don't be so bloody dutch and BUY that cable ;-). It's an investment of a few euros and you will recover your investment with the first VOIP call you make to Thailand...
You can't make voice calls using minifring on Java phones such as the Aino.In fact, you would be hard pressed to find any VOIP client that works on SE Java phones, although it's theoretically possible since there is an option for SIP settings in some of these phones.
