Could somebody tell me which operating system the Aino runs on please?
I want to signup to Fring which allows the user to make cheap international calls, but in the FAQ @ http://www.fring.com/fringout/faq/, it states that only Nokia Symbian S60, iPhone & Android devices are supported. Does the Aino run on any of those?
Thanks in advance.
Well, like I already mentioned, I have a barebones version of the Aino which doesn't include the Bluetooth unit.
Actually, I use Rebtel at the moment which doesn't need any installation on either the phone or my PC. But I like to have an alternative in case I ever need it.
Of course I'll need the cable to connect the phone to the PC, but I've just returned from three months holiday in Thailand and right now, I'm flat broke.
Yes, that's correct.
But for the benefit of everyone concerned, check out http://www.rebtel.com/ It doesn't require any software installation on the phone and you can also make calls using a landline.
If you talk about "bluetooth unit" it's as if you expect a "thing", an object, that you can unpack and connect. Bluetooth is a feature, a function, just like radio, wifi, etc. .
If you are referring to the bluetooth headset (I suppose you do), or "BT handsfree" als Sony Ericsson calls it, you only need that item if you want to make handsfree phone calls.
It has nothing to do with communicating with your PC through bluetooth in stead of a USB cable. So I don't quite understand the link you seem to make between not having the bluetooth headset and not having a USB cable - you can connect Aino to your PC without USB cable through bluetooth, whether you have the Bluetooth headset or not. The bottleneck is your PC, which of course needs to have the bluetooth feature too.
Thank you by the way for the Rebtel link, very useful!
I'm a bit confused here.. earlier in this topic you suggest to get Minifring. Now you say Minifring doesn't work with Aino.
I meant Minifring doesn't allow VOIP calls on Java phones, such as those made through Skype, but it does allow text calls, i.e., chat.Other apps such as Nimbuzz, allow voice calls at discounted rates, but only over the mobile network and not the internet(VOIP).Of course it all depends on the deal available at the time.
Yes, I must admit I was a bit confused there for a moment. I did actually think that the bluetooth headset was required in order to allow the phone to communicate with the PC. I shall have to check my motherboard setup to find the BIOS setting because Bluetooth doesn't appear in Win XP Pro Control Panel at the moment. Thanks for the tip
Here's a list of other free, or cheap call providers which I discovered yesterday: http://www.getdialing.com/index.php/services/review_list/ Voxofon (near the foot of the page) looks interesting from my point of view because they have a similar setup to Rebtel i.e. you don't have to install anything and you don't need the PC to be on in order to make calls.
