Hi everyone,
Lately, I have been bugged with the above mentioned issue. Occasionally, my phone will restart itself for no apparent reason. It occurs in quite a random manner. The only thing that i did lately to the phone is to upgrade the firmware to R2BA020. At first I thought the installation was not done correctly so I repaired it using PC Companion but still the matter persists. Have anyone faced similar issue or know how to solve it as its becoming rather irritating.
Regards
Justin
Actually, I strongly believe the problem is purely related to hardware...
Not sure .... was it caused by too long charging? ...
Hmmm.. Maybe.. But I read somewhere that; the charging gets cuts-off when the battery is full; You can see that with the absence of lightning icon above battery bar when it is full. Well; But not sure whether it gets done properly inside
I too had this issue, and it started immediately after I updated to the most recent software in Canada (RB2A020 I think - it added "Backup and Restore" amongst other minor updates). Since I don't use my phone often for phone calls, it was only within the last few days that I also noticed that all of my calls (incoming or outgoing) were being disconnected within about 10 seconds of connecting. After some browsing of the interwebs to see if this were a known bug and if there were any solutions, I basically threw up my hands and decided to restore factory settings and hope that it would undo the software update. I was disappointed to find that it did not remove this update, and I was stuck. However, after restoring all of my apps, contacts, SMS, etc, I attempted to make and receive calls. This time, the calls stayed connected until I got bored with talking to myself (surprisingly, longer than 10 seconds). So far, this has also cured the restarting issue...though it only restarted while not connected to a charger, and it's basically been connected to the charger since I restored factory settings. I'll post again at the end of the day to update on if the phone has restarted itself. If it does not, I'll deem it "cured".
my problems also started after the latest update which added the backup and restore software to the device , but mine was R2BA026. i use several apps on my device although the problem persisted even after i did factory reset for the device so i can't blame any app for the problem..the restart problem can be produced by extensive use of the device ( extensive as in several open apps for more than half an hour) ..the overheating and burn smell is obvious when the device is connected to the charger , in which case it will enter a start loop after minor use while charging.
You guys do know that to preserve the battery's life, you should not charge beyond 80% or let it drop below 25-30%!
You should not plug it into the power the moment your step into the office. You should charge it to 80% and let it run down to around 25% before charging to 80% again. And when you are not doing anything with it, you should unplug it from the grid.
True... but these are standard recommendations for all Li-Ion batteries used in most gadgets including cell phones and laptops, and they are designed to help extend the life span of the battery and it's memory function for as long as possible. so they are in no way related to the normal battery behavior as temperature and battery life under normal operation. it's also important that these recommendations can be very difficult to follow on a xperia x10, since following these guidelines will mean maintaining a normal working charge in around 60% of the total capacity of the battery. so, if you consider the current power consumption issue of the xperia, then the charging-recharging cycle of the device should occur every 9-10 hours which is just impractical for most users.
Overheating and burn can never be considered use-related issues blamed on over-charging..other wise the device should have come with a clear warning to heat problems
and possible life threatening injuries. and i guess that's why it's called OVER-heating .
Like I mentioned before, I have no battery issue or the problem with power consumption. Perhaps because I have been using large screen phone since.... hmm... I don't really remember now.... may be more than 10 years.
I remember the days when the single charge would only suffice for 2 to 3 hours of nominal use. All the practices have added up to my usage habit for large screen phones today. May be that's why I don't have issues, or that I have not encounter them yet.
Not impractical, just difficult. I have a habit of maintaining them between those levels these days. Trained myself to do so.
I am not disagreeing the way to maintain the battery life. I suspect the charging-circuit of X10 might be the cause of this problem.
that's one of my suspicion as well.
