Sorry to hear that you experience problem after you have updated your phone. How did you update your phone?
I suggest that you try to reinstall the phone software using PC Companion:
http://www.sonymobile.com/update
In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phones software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone".
Before repairing the software in your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to:

Sorry, if you don't have access to any Internet connection other than the phone you can try to make a factory reset. Open settings > backup and reset > reset to factory settings.

I don't think Sony will push out any update they haven't tested out themself. If the update really breaks the phone it's supposed to update, then you will definately see 1,001 posts about the issue( Ok i may exagerate about about the 1,001 posts but you get my point
). And like any update process, including windows, any interruption during the process whether it's on your end, ISP or the internet may potentially fail. That's why it's critical to always backup before each process.
With that said, if your phone do end up 'dead' while updating, try to do a repair instead. But remember to give your phone some time after the update/repair to settle. Sometime up to 1-2 days for the battery consumption to stabilize.
If you don't have internet acess to 'repair' the phone since it reqires to download the firmware, your only other option is to bring the phone to any Sony Support Centre. Or ask a friend with internet access to help.
I hope you manage to get your issue resolve soon. good luck!
Factory reset only erase the data partition. It does not reinstall the firmware. If any of the files are already corrupted when you update, doing a factory reset does nothing. You need to redownload your firmware and flash your phone again. Or just bring the phone to the service centre. The phone won't fix itself just by ranting on this forum.
