Hi !
There is a scaling issue with Walkman 8.4.A.4.4 on xperi Z3 Compact where the cover art in Walkman app look jagged specially around the font.
For example for Stranger in Moscow Track, look at the word 'Jackson' it looks jagged as **bleep**, even the preloaded songs have the same problem!
After farther digging...
The cover art displayed in the Walkman at 525 x 525 px , take a screenshot and crop it to to get that size. I tried embedding cover art in Stranger in Moscow at different resolutions , 1200px, 700px, 512px, and 500px. All of them looks jagged around the statue and the font. The only way to get it displayed correctly is re-sizing that artwork to 525 px to match the Walkman resolution. It did the trick but for those who have huge music library its not convenient at all for them to go through this process for each single album/track
Take a look at these screenshots for cover art @ 1200px vs 525px
1200 px cover art
525 px cover art
Can you please get a fix for that in the next update! Same applies to Music Unlimited cover artwork, they simply look hideos!
Thanks guys
Sony don't supply the album art that is gathered from music unlimited this is done by a 3rd party company however that been said you could use a 3rd party app like cover art downloader to amend the images or via your Pc use a program like mp3tag
The issue will not be fixed with a 3rd party app! I tried to tag the cover art using mp3tag on PC and iTag app on the phone and both have the same results. The walkman app does not render anything correctly for cover art if the original art is not set at 525 pixels on my Z3C. The issue is with application itself! Try it yourself...
Regarding Music Unlimited, The music unlimited walkman integration does not display a clear artwork, looks jagged and pixelated. I know that for a fact because the album art looks big and sharp in Music Unlimited on PS4, so its not a source issue.
Thanks
I do use mp3tag and do not have any issues at all - The built in tagging system for me doesn't work as it has when I did try it apply the wrong artwork and mix up my albums,
But if the artwork is the issue then using mp3tag you can manually apply a resized image if it helps I have resized the image in question to 525x525 pixels for your consideration here
Here are more examples of Music Unlimited messed up cover art, Eminem and BSB looks jagged, same with fonts!!

What phone are you using?
A new update got rolled out today for Walkman (8.4.A.5.3)
However the cover art still look pixelated for Music Unlimited titles and local files! The puzzling thing is the cover art looks clean and detailed on the Home Page as in the screenshot below:
NOW the same cover art and same MU track displayed in the NOW PLAYING screen. You can see her hands are pixelated and her face as well and lacking detail...
Why this issue haven't been resolved yet?! Can somebody from the development team please respond to this thread so at least we know they acknowldge this?
Thanks!
I have the same problem as well, on the Xperia Z3. Cover art is scaled using nearest neighbor (box) filtering.
However, on the Xperia Z3 it is made worse by the screen being higher resolution. The size of the album art of the selected song in portrait mode is then 787x787, but the render target is still 525x525px and gets upscaled, producing irregular pixellation and aliasing regardless of the source resolution of the album art. Some pixels are doubled and some tripled along each axis.
In landscape mode, the album art also looks terrible and probably does also on the Xperia Z3 Compact.
Yes, I noticed that few minutes after I updated my app! Glad that you can confirm that as well, thanks guys for addressing the issue.
Question though, why is music unlimited rendering album art at low resolution in Walkman app? It displays fine on track ID. Check out these screenshots for example
