Xperia Z5 lollipop sudden battery drain

Dear all,

My Z5 seems to have developed "something", with it's battery. Maybe somebody can explain. Phone is already 6 months old, worked like a charm. Haven't updated to Android 6 after the problems I got with my Z3 compact (unable to call), so I prefer to wait a little. Though my phone, all of a sudden, starts to drain it's battery. Phone gets warm when screen is on, and battery drainage when it is a sleep. Usual suspect google play services is on top. But also in Stamina mode (which I hate actually) battery drains easily 8% at night. While with Stamina off this is around 17%.

Without Stamina, it's google play services as main culprit, with stamina it's "mobile standby".

My Z3 compact with Android 6 works easily a whole week, my Z5 with 5.1.1 also worked for a whole week but now doesn't last for 2 days anymore.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks!

Yeah, but they all describe a problem after 6.0.1 installation. Mine just started with it, out of nothing.

In spite of all the problems reported here, I'd still suggest updating to MM.

Not only for the slightly more up-to-date security patch, but also because newer applications/updates might be less tested under lollipop, even the mighty google framework services. Not saying that's the source of your battery drain but it could happen.

Otherwise, look for usual culprits: apps that won't let go of some sensor (such as the location); normally a full apps cache cleanup should fix it. Look at the running services and also check for mediaserver times, it might be you're syncing lots of photos or something all of a sudden, maybe you changed the music storage location in google music, etc.

Finally, if you still don 't wanna update, factory reset and refrain from restore backups; instead, install them one by one and keep an eye on the battery performance at the same time.

My Z5 compact was way worser in lollipop than in marshmallow, if it may help you to upgrade it.

Hi all,

Sorry for late reply, still some strange battery drainage once in a while, my Z5 now manages 4 days to reach 20%. Phone also get pretty warm when just browsing internet. Still weird that it happens, I have almost no apps installed, and certainly nothing changed the two months.

First the culprit was Google services, then Android OS, then mobile standby. Battery use still is crappy in comparison to what it was.

My Z3C manages to reach 12 (!!!!) days to reach 20%, while this phone is used a LOT more for calling than the Z5.

The Z5c of mine struggles to reach 2 days of light use, without any social app installed, so consider yourself blessed to reach 4.
