Dear Sony,

I would like to suggest some Sony camera improvements which will make Sony fans happy.

So, Sony XZ1 camera is good, but not the best. Color balance, video quality, night photos are great, but day photos (photos which are made with good light conditions) have many disadvantages which can be fixed/improved by Sony easily.

The following is the list of improvements which will make Sony camera the best:

1. Disadvantage: Sony noise reduction algorithm is too agressive which leads to photo details lost and another artifacts like many small blured spots which are visible when you zoom photo to 100%

Solution: Allow Sony camera users to adjust level of noise reduction. For instance, from 0 - level (disabled noise reduction at all) to N - level, and Auto level if possible. It would be great to have such option in both Sony camera modes, Manual Photo Mode and also in Auto Photo Mode.

2. Disadvantage: Currently, Sony HDR is not the best. I don't know tha cause of that, but it looks like some weak HDR algorithm.
Often, HDR is not necessary at all to make great photos. In Manual Photo Mode, it is allowed to enable/disable HDR, but in Auto Photo Mode there is no such option. That fact makes Auto Photo Mode useless. You can ask Sony fans, the most of them don't use Auto Photo Mode, the most users use Manual Photo Mode with disabled HDR.

Solution: Make HDR optional in Auto Photo Mode in order user can enable/disable HDR (enabled by default).

3. Disadvantage: As, I said above Sony camera has weak HDR and it can be fixed also.

Solution 1 (minimum): open Camera2 API to allow RAW in order Sony fans can use third-party Android camera software to make great HDR photos.
Solution 2 (maximum): open Camera2 API to allow RAW and improve Sony camera application HDR algorithm.

So, that is all
I am software dveloper (Java, Android) and I am pretty sure that (1) and (2) is easy fix/improvement for Sony developers team.

Great.. sell the XZ1 now....

I have a Nikon for great photos.It makes much better photos than the RX100m4 but I need a phone with a camera which is atleast somthing good as the Galaxy S6..... Unfortunately no Xperia cameras can compete with it.... poor sony

Well, most likely sony has an agreement that if they sell their camera to iphone and samsung, they must sell the better version (sensors & image processing) from sony's own mobile phone.

I wish I could be happier using my XZ1, but really, nothing special with this phone, also i got a defective shadow display.

If it is true then Sony violates that agreement with Sony RX100 (M1-M5), because another photo cameras are not better

I have a Nikon for great photos.It makes much better photos than the RX100m4

It depends of what Nikon you have.

I'm sure that this isn't that reason. Problem is not in hardware, problem is in software. Sins Xperia S, Sony with camera, goes on it's own way, with aggressive noice canceling soft. Every pixel is owerwritten even in very good light condition... Why? Why we can't have picture in RAW? I thing/know , it's just because, RAW is clear that what can your hardware. And sensors in XZ1, cane do more, that we see right now.

It's just my opinion.

Maybe because it's on different business/divison? They decided to use their own best sensor & not to sell them at premium price.

After reading all this, looks like the message is: stay away from sony, they stopped to care about us, customers.

Really disappointing that they didn't answer at all to this thread.

Its not about agreements, its not about sensors its about OIS, EIS and post processing. Sony hasn't implemented OIS or EIS in xz1 and in addition, sony camera software is very poor in post prossesing. If you get in manual settings, choose 1 sec ss, a fixed iso and place the phone on a tripod. Then you ll find out that sensor is fine but lacks of the things that i mentioned.
