Can i charge it with a car charger that is rated 5V 1200MA ?

not all car chargers will work

As uliwooly says, not all 3:rd party chargers will work but regarding voltage and mA there's no problem with the charger you have but it may take a little longer to charge the phone as it has a lower mA. What you should not do is to connect a charger with another voltage.

Is there a cwe charger that will work with the Xperia z. The charger I used to have doesn't charge this phone and I don't want to waste money just buying chargers that won't work
