Missing "messages" widget on lockscreen Android 4.2.2

Hi, Trying to add a "messages" widget to my lockscreen but one isn't available.  The only widgets available to be added are: Calendar, Digital clock, Email, Gmail, Google Now, Google+ posts, and TrackID.  Isn't there supposed to be a messages widget as well so I can see new messages from the lockscreen?

I have not seen a messages option available for a lock screen widget on the Xperia Z1, I have checked a few units here to confirm.

I can second what Sam said, you will need a third party lock screen app to do so.

I would have thought that being able to view your messages without unlocking your phone would defeat the object of having a lock screen??
