Silent mode not silent

Ok, so I'm trying to work out how the silent modes work on my Z3. I'm failing.

So it seems you can press the volume key and by clicking the 'bell' icon I can scroll through 3 different modes: Loud, Vibrate and Silent.

Seems simple enough, only none of these modes silence apps or games at all.

I just want to put my phone on silence/vibrate and know that even apps and games will be silent too.

I thought I could put into vibrate mode and slide the media volume down to zero and it would rememeber it... then putting back into loud mode would make media slider go back to normal volume?... Nope, I have to change it back to loud mode and remember to slide the media volume back to normal...

Do I really have to manually, change the mode, then click on slider buttons slide media volume down to zero.... then remember to slide it back up EVERY time??

Is it even possible to have vibrate mode silence everything (except alarms!) and then loud mode have normal volume again?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

If anyone is interested, I fixed this with a workaround.

The issue is inherent poor design in Android OS but I'm sure Sony could fix it.

An app called Media-Mute in app store fixed the problem and when you mute your phone by putting in vibrate or silent mode, it also silences the apps/media without having to use addtional hidden media volume slider.

Sony (or Google) please fix this and improve on stupid Android so muting your phone mutes everything like apps/games/media. I don't mind having the option to mute alerts and media/apps separately but it should be default to mute everything when muting phone... with additional long winded steps to have media loud but alerts muted or whatever.

It is under Z3 board, not others.
