Xperia Z1 compact battery is overheated, does not switch on or charge

Hello,

I have a Xperia Z1 Compact, about 1 year old. My phone is switched off ,although it has 15% battery. When I try to charge my phone it displays ' your device turned off due to overheating ,charging will continue once the device cools down'. I left it for 24hrs ,yet it shows the same thing. When I try to switch it on, the sony xperia logo and 'powered by android' is displayed, then the screen goes black again.

I had recently updated it to one of the latest Android versions and also downloaded a lot of apps causong the phone memory to be almost full.

I have tried using volume up+power on ,but it doesnt help. My PC cannot detect the phone, except for a moment when the phone tries to switch on. All I can do is get it completely discharged by trying to switch on again and again. But I am not sure if that's a good things for the battery.

Please help

Hi Hampus,

My phone is showing a pecuilar behaviour. When I connect it to wall socket, the red light indicating charging, appears for an instant then goes off. I noticed the last time I connected it to my laptop, my battery had charged a bit. But , charging it again using wall socket or laptop for over an hour , it didn't charge at all. I cannot identify what is making the charging possible.

Also, I am not sure whether my phone is switched on or off. I tried the volume up+power on, the phone vibrated twice/thrice. Does that mean its switched off?How can I find whether my phone is currently switched on/off ?

Please help

@qazwsx1

When you hold down the ON/OFF button + volume up(+) for 5 seconds, you should feel a total of 3 vibrates. Then the phone should be completely off since you have forced a shutdown by this key combination. After this you should connect it to the charger and let it charge for some hours (2-3 hours should be enough) before you try a software repair via Bridge for Mac again.

@Hampus

As I mentioned ,my phone is not charging by connecting to power socket or laptop. What could be the possible problem? How can I correct it?

It's hard to pinpoint what the cause can be. If you have the possibility, you can always try to charge the phone with another charger to see if same thing happens.

But if the phone won't charge and you are unable to perform this software repair, I think it would be best to visit nearest service center to have it examined by a technician. You can check the following link to see how you can proceed with this in the best possible way:

I have the same problem with a message "Your device turned off due turned off due to overheating. Charging will continue after the device has cooled down". I tried to repair it with PCC without a success. The OS is Android 5.0.2.

I replaced a battery and the phone has booted and worked good. Till the moment of charging.   After ten minute of charging the phone had been turned off, and now that battery has the same behaviour as the previous one.

The charger wasn't the same, so it has nothing to do with the charger.

So I think, a problem is the mainboard, that has  killed two batteries.

My phone has done this too. The bitter thing is that I bought this phone in Australia but live in NZ where this particular model wasn't released- as a result Sony nz refuse to do anything about the fault. I'm pretty unhappy that after a year and 4 months my $600 phone is going in the rubbish bin... what a rip off. Has anyone come across any solution for the problem? I loved this phone but now i'll need to buy a new one (which i can't afford) and will probably switch to a company with better customer care

Same problem with my Xperia Z1 Compact- the phone turned itsself off and displays a message that this is due to overheating. Tried the repair option via PC Companion- no change, still not working. This seems to have happened to many users after the recent software update. And of course my warranty expired 3 weeks ago. So should I now be paying for this crap update???
