sony handycam DCR hc30e battery doesnt charge

Hello, i have DCr hc30e it only turns on when my camera is charging, but when i turn off charger  camera turns off too... I dont understand is battery died and i need to buy new one or is there anything that i can do? please help me

It sounds like the battery is dead but the only way to be sure is to try another one.I guess the battery is pretty old if it is the original?

The best thing would be to borrow one but if that is not possible you will need to decide if it is worth buying a new one even though there may be another problem. Alternatively, you could take it to a repair shop but it may be cheaper to buy a battery.
