HDMI Cable and full picture

Have just attached my digital recorder to my new Sony tv and the picture is not full screen. It was fine with a scart lead but not an HDMI cable. Any ideas why?

In the HDMI menu of the recorder, if you selected a 16:9 TV set connected you have an option enable called "4:3 Video out", if you select "Full" you will always fill the screen, otherways in "Normal" if the original screen format was 4:3 you will see black bands

Hi SoozWooz

What is the make and model of the recorder? This might be related to a copyright protection mechanism, but might also be the output of the recorder.

Hope we can help.
