Hi there

Thanks for the prompt - I will chase them up on this issue (my mums also been on at me on this problem too, which therefore becomes my problem too  )

Unfortunately at this moment in time, I have no new information, and getting any relevant information from Sony is like pulling a stubbon wisdom tooth (Sorry Sony, Its true)

Been reading the email on here and I am suffering
the same problems.
This is a sony problem and so annoying.
(This event is availible on channel 107 would you like to
change to HD event)No I don't @×#!? want to change just
leave me in peace.
I have a KDL40CX523 Not had problems realy until we had
the new HD channels.
If Sony is help making the problem then they YOU should
put it right ASAP.
Wouldn't recomend Sony on this showing.
I have tried some of the things mentioned but it still
comes back. Geoff.

How to disable the message "This event is available in HD on service nnn."

Sony KDL-32CX523 shows prompt in the middle of the screen:

This event is available in HD on service 935.
Do you want to change to HD event?
     [Yes] [No]

Select [Yes], and it goes to channel 935.

Unfortunately, channel 935 has no signal - the real BBC One HD signal is on Freeview channel 050 - so that isn't a good result:

Workaround is to delete the relevant channels from the TV.

To delete channels, go to

Settings/Home Menu > Digital Set-up > Digital Programme Sorting.

Here, we've deleted "BBC HD" (934) and "BBC One HD" (935), and we're about to delete "ITV1 HD" (936) and "Channel 4 HD" (937):

The channel numbers we got (934 - 937) are different from those seen by abarton (833 etc). Maybe it's region-dependent. We're in a BN16 postcode.

Sometimes we've seen it switch to BBC HD correctly when you say [Yes], which means that if you want to be sure of not getting those "change to HD event?" prompts at all, you may have to sacrifice the HD channel. That's kind of a shame - somewhat defeats the object of having an HD set.

To be notified if Sony do something to fix this - and to encourage them to fix it - select 'Notify Me' at:

Bravia : On screen broadcast message prompt, change channel to HD option ?

http://sonycic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1878/

Sony subsequently updated that article to say, "Due to customer demand and as requested, this prompt feature has now been removed".

I've just upgraded my firmware to PKG4.024EUA, and am no longer getting the prompt. So it looks as though they've finally fixed it, thank goodness!

Excellent - Thank you for the update Falmerican.

Just waiting for official confirmation from Sony before closing the thread, but have seen a couple of others on other sites say the same thing.

I am still getting this message.  This evening I was watching BBC Four and got message saying "This event is available in HD on service 106......"

Do I need to update my Firmware, whatever that is, and if so how?

Hi there

There are two ways to update the firmware on your TV.

1 - Most easiest

If your TV is connected to your home network, press the [HOME] button on the remote control.  Goto "Settings" > "Product Support" > "Software Update" and follow the onscreen instructions.

2 - Manually

Goto the following webpage and follow the instructions accordingly:

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-dwnl/prd-tvhc/bravia-kdl-firmware-update-v4024eua/KDL-3...

Hope that helps

I did the Firmware update five days ago using the manual (USB) method and it worked fine.

Since then I have not had any messages pop-up about event being available on HD.

Good result, thanks for the support and advice Quinnicus.
