Blue Ray Problems

I bought an AR21s laptop over 3 months ago with the prospect of enjoying the new Blu Ray technology. Well in a nut shell with the few updates and fixes provided on the site a complete re boot and endless searching for patches all sony can come up with is a security patch. Well that would be great if the drive would play blu ray dvd's without stuttering. It is clearly conflict or incompatibility with the software provided. There have been a number of complaints and what are Sony doing to develop a patch to cure this problem. Looks like i will be sending it back. Very annoyed.

You make me anxious.

I wait for "Casino Royal" that should come end of this month.

I will post my remarks at that time !

Am I the only one to have no problems with blu-ray on AR21S ? I have now (unfortunately) upgraded to Vista but before, with XP MCE, I had no problems (after installing the firmware upgrade for the drive and all fixes provided by this site). The only "problem" I discovered is that watching blu-ray uses a high percentage of the CPU so if you have other tasks running in the background, it can cause problems. Were I in your place, I would try to upgrade the Nvidia drivers. Unfortunately Sony does not provide very recent drivers, but on www.laptopvideo2go.com you will find a way to install the latests Nvidia drivers.

By the way, I just discovered an update named "Other" on this site for the AR21S, but the size of this update and the version number let me think it is the long-awaited WinDVD BD version for Vista. I will try this evening and let you know ! There is also since 2 or 3 days an update for camera capture utility.

Good News, the download is really WinDVD BD and it works fine. I also installed the camera capture utility update but I don't see any changes (it works fine, as before)

Hi guys,

I redownloaded the WinDVD BD edition to watch the film, and it worked second time round, so not sure what's going on there!

I thought the quality wasn't bad, considering Lethal Weapon was made in 1989, classic movie though, if you like that sort of film.

Still, I would have prefered to see this on a bigger screen than the laptop's 17", but when I watched The Transporter on the XL201 my friend has it was absolutely amazing, so draw your conclusion from that.

Hi.
I have a 21S with Vista and i just made the new update of WinDVD.
Now, when i try to see any blu-ray it appears the following message in the screen...
'This Media is not supported'.
I can see the content of the disc but not the movie.
Next week i'll go to Sony Portugal to demand explanations. I bought this model because of blu-ray technology and i can use it ?????
Best regards to all,
Nuno Garcia.

Thanks's Kee-lo for your answer but WinDVD only have region choice for DVD not Blu-Ray. All the blu-ray's i have came from US. I have tried all the movies in other 21S with Windows Media Center Edition and all worked fine.

My WinDVD, as originally supplied, has two region setting folders. One for DVD the other for BD; although the one for BD was not set correctly when I received my AR31S, and I had also some troubles to change it before I could watch a Blueray movie. The number of region changes you can do is limited to 5. So it's not possible to change forth and back if you have BD-discs from Europe or the US...unless there is a trick to re-set the counter
