MSN/Hotmail and battery power

When I am running my Sony Vaio SZ1HP on battery power I cannot connect to MSN Messenger or to the Hotmail website. If the computer is running on AC power I can connect to MSN Messenger but as soon as I disconnect the power plug the messenger logs off.

Does anyone else experience the same problem? Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Hi Bram and welcome to the forum.

Check that the Power management options of your Network Connection is not set to “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

This is the most common reason for loss of connection while running on battery power....

Look in Device Manager > Network Adaptors > Network Connection > Properties > Power Management tab.

Thanks a lot! Although the exact option you mentioned wasn't there, I could change the balance between battery life and performance. It works now!
