My notebook appears to have died.

My notebook appears to have died.

I cannot get any life from my sony viao.
I have had a look at troubleshooter without finding a solution.
The power lead LED works (green Light ok) but the power adapter is cold.

I press the power on switch but get no signs of life. I also tried to switch on using battery power only, but get no response.

I have found the wall socket the power lead was plugged into is faulty.

Is it possible a power surge as damaged some part on the motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

yours,

raceman

Hi raceman

Welcome to Club Vaio,

Try removing the battery and unplugging the AC adapter from your Vaio, then push and hold the Vaio power button at least for 60 seconds, then reconnect the power supply and turn your laptop on again..

hi thalamus,

Thanks for your reply, i have followed your instructions but still no joy, no signs of life.

Is there anything else I could try?

This is, of course, a possibility, but other avenues are worth exploration.

Try removing all but one memory module (assuming that you have more than one) and try a single module in all permutations.

Where are the memory modules located? I have removed part of the cover and can only see the hard drive. The Model of notebook is PCG-6B1M

Hi raceman,

I'm not sure what model that is as Sony tend to use a series model number, ie PCG K315M to identify the models, can you post back with this model number if possible please..

Hi raceman,

Have a look here for instructions on accessing the memory module(s). I would seem that your model only has one 512 MB module fitted as standard, so unless you have added additional memory my suggestion will not be of much help. :slight_frown:

hi Rich912,

I have located the 512mb memory and have removed it and fitted it into the second slot, but still have no power.

Is there anything else I could try?

Hi raceman,

I think you may have to arrange for a technician to have a look at your Vaio.. :slight_frown:

You could either contact Vaio-Link or a local repairer in your area..
