Not loading properly

I have a S2Xp with all the windows updates and norton antivirus. Recently when i load up my laptop from a shut down it doesn't load properly, it comes up with the wall paper and stops. It doesn't load the start bar or any icons. Ctrl+Alt+Delete works and i can start a new task. I usually type in "recent" to which it responds by loading up the icons and start bar and a window with the recent results.

Thanks in advanced for any replies

Try turning off each program in MSCONFIG until you find the culprit.

Go to Start > Run and type in MSCONFIG
Go to the start up tab and turn off the program you think might be causing the fault, but only turn off Norton related ones as you could do some damage otherwise.

They'll also be listed as 'symantec'
