PCG-FRV30 Dead sound card?

I fear the worst my fellow VAIOns.

My laptop is about 2 weeks beyond the one year warranty. Today I was listening to music copied to my hard drive, on headphones. I do this every day.

Suddenly there was no sound at all. The status bar in Sonic Stage still indicated "play."

I stopped Sonic Stage and went to control panel to see if windows sounds would play. The arrow enlarged as if they were playing but now sound.

In hardware applet there was an "error 10". So I disabled the driver, restarted, enabled. Checked all the volume controls. Nothing.

Hardware says the device is working properly.

I will call VAIO support tomorrow, but perhaps one of you Owls can tell me, "Oh yeah I've seen this and all you need to do is..."

I'll check the Knowledge Base now. Wish me luck. This is my first VAIO laptop, having wanted one for many years. I hope there's an easy fix, or I may be off VAIO (sob.)

Thanks.:smileycry:

The manner in which it happened makes me think it's dead too, normally you'd have to do something for a software error.

I guess a system restore might help.
