play US and EU DVD's

Help please, my Vaio PCV-W1G desk top has stopped playing US DVDs and has told me it is now set at EU only as had changed setting 10 times .... is there a download or change I can make to the software to let my kids play US and EU DVD's ?

Hi mikearther,

All DVD drives have a limit to the number of times you can change the DVD Region Code. This is nothing to do with Sony as it is by international convention.

I think this is going to be bad news for you - check which DVD drive you have in your W1G. I susoect it is going to be a Matshita drive which does not work with any of the Region Free software hacks available. Your drive is now locked into Region 2 forever.

The only answer is an external USB DVD drive which you can leave set to Region 1. Luckily they are coming down in price - about £45 for a DVD-RW/DL like this which will do any format including DL but I'm sure you will find a CD-ROM player much cheaper.
