The bios changes work great, much louder! I can only imagine sony put this feature in to conserve battery life. After all most things in a laptop are trade offs between power and battery life. If your using a sony laptop as a media center, then an external speaker set would be essential i would think, i dont know why u would want to use the in built speakers in this situation. By a creative cardbus sound card and hook up some 7.1 surround speakers, thats a media center!
