Vaio Update 3 Failed: WHY?

I keep getting this message on my Vaio. I have recently upgraded to Vista which works like a dream.

VAIO Update failed to initialise for one or more of the following reasons:
You are not using Internet Explorer. (YES I AM)
ActiveX have been disabled or the VAIO Update ActiveX is not installed on your computer.
You didn't start VAIO Update using the icon in the system tray or via Start -> All Programs -> VAIO Update -> Go to VAIO Web Support. (YES I DID)
You tried to install VAIO Update on a computer that does not support it. (NO I DIDN'T)

The only thing I can see going wrong is this ActiveX stuff but what can I do to check this out or reinstall ActiveX?

Many Thanks for any help

i have the same problem

did u install vista clean? or had u a version with sony drivers and utils included?

if u have a clean install like me (i have vista business from uni)
the problem could be that we have no serial number saved in the windows installation. so autoupdate can't recognize the product.

Yes, mine was a clean install. If it is an absesnce of a serial number how can we rectify this? My VAIO is only 6 months old!

No solutions forthcoming then?

Hi

There is still the option of manually downloading the updates from Vaio-Link...
