hdmi output was disabled on xperia devices for "design" reasons, hdmi output comes by default os it was disabled by sony for some weird reason most likely due to getting people to use miracast, has this been fixed with the xperia 1 as i have decided to buy the 1 but if it has hdmi output disabled like all the other ones then i am doubtful.

You can connect your Xperia 1 to an external display or TV which has a DisplayPort or an HDMI port.
To connect the phone to an external display or TV that has a DisplayPort, you can use a USB-C to DisplayPort cable which supports DisplayPort 4K 60 fps*.

@booldega, I hope this information confirms that the website you found was telling the truth!
That would be very unfortunate since most of the attention is on the CineAlta capabilities...
Also, it has been leaked Android 10 will support desktop mode natively (something like the Samsung thing), so this would be essential.
Imagine editing your video with Premiere Elements on your phone with the monitor and mouse connected
According to this japanese website, the Xperia 1 has DisplayPort over USB-C but I don't know if we can trust this website and where they got this information so not sure at 100% but probably yes, I guess we will have to wait until the smartphone releases and someone testing it with a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

Has anyone been able to test the HDMI output function on the Xperia 1? I remember seeing it mentioned in the documentation but when I look now it seems to be removed. Any confirmation that this feature is available would be a big help!
It works, tried it with a USB dock
Ditto - I've just tried it with an expensive HP Spectre USB Dock, and HDMI output worked straight away
What shows up on the external screen, a duplicate of your phone at full screen?

An exact duplicate - so it looks very narrow in portrait mode, but much better in landscape mode

So I guess in landscape mode it would still have some black bars on a 16x9 tv? Does video from streaming apps or youtube work good?
