Poor clarity from image taken with Photo Pro

Can someone please explain to me why a phone being touted as having the most advanced camera system on phone produces images with with such poor detail!? I took both pictures below with P-mode in Photo Pro.

The first image has dynamic range turned on and the second auto-HDR. I know the photos are being comprised due to being JPEGs but level of clarity is not up good. My Pixel 2, which I upgraded from to 1ii, would capture much more detail in it's pictures. I know there is a lot of computational work going on, but still, I'd expect much more from a flagship phone priced at £1100!

I hope these and all the other issues (ironic all to do with cameras) are fixed soon!20200630_210546.JPG20200630_210557.JPG

Yes, this are my pictures. And I agree, your picture is horrible. Here some new examples i took this afternoon.

With such images I could live. But my device won't please me with such quality, despite all my efforts.

So let's take some conclusions:

1. we have different components / faulty components in some of our MK2s

2. hypothetical, some users can't be good enough to male proper shoots...BUT, the Auto mode should do it

3. as only the 24mm lens gives good material we must take care with that lens to shoot, for that we don't need the MK2 (my XZ Premium with one lens will do it all and do it better).

4. back to point 1, maybe some defective charges and SONY found that out and stopped delivering actually?

These are good shots, what did you take them with?

All good points @BBEN66

I want to do my more thorough test like @mamller6487 did over the weekend, but I feel I will be disappointed with the results.

Most of my shots are taken with the main lens. I use typical the photopro app in P mode.

I´ve just made a little video with the information of ISO and shutter speed and wich lens i used.

Sony Xperia 1 II - Beispielbilder Expamples

Nearly every shot i took was usable.

In my channel you will find some aditional videos, slomo example, with my Sony Xperia 1 II, but in german  and this also explains my mistakes in writing in english, hope you understand what i am writing 😂

Good job with the video and the images you used, they came out great! This makes me want to do my own tests now which I will be doing over the weekend. Also your English is very good, I had no problem reading what you wrote. 😊

Thank you

One aditional remark, i use DRO. With HDR enabled the results are often more pale and the dark areas are too less detailed AND the shots are very quick. That is my personal problem  i am not calm enought to hold my hands long stable. With DRO it is fast  with HDR very slow in comparison.

And compared with other phones Sony is a flash

I think I will choose DRO for low light conditions and HDR for when shooting outside in good light.

What do you guys think of these pics taken with DRO & HDR as a comparison?  Either way, point of smartphone photography is NOT to blow your brains out to figure out the best scenario for a specific scene, but to quickly take the best possible photo / point and shoot. Waste of money, and I have serious doubts Sony will improve a lot with their future sotware updates

forgot to mention that all 4 photos where taken with P mode, ISO, shutter speed & white balance where on auto.
