Poor clarity from image taken with Photo Pro

Can someone please explain to me why a phone being touted as having the most advanced camera system on phone produces images with with such poor detail!? I took both pictures below with P-mode in Photo Pro.

The first image has dynamic range turned on and the second auto-HDR. I know the photos are being comprised due to being JPEGs but level of clarity is not up good. My Pixel 2, which I upgraded from to 1ii, would capture much more detail in it's pictures. I know there is a lot of computational work going on, but still, I'd expect much more from a flagship phone priced at £1100!

I hope these and all the other issues (ironic all to do with cameras) are fixed soon!

Das ist der Grund, warum ich zwei S20 Ultras zurückgeschickt hatte. Ich seh die Bilder und habe das Gefühl mir gehen die Augen über. Irgendwie kommt mir das unnatürlich vor.

Kam mit dem Look nicht klar.

OK. Things are getting better, and they are getting fast better. Made today a trip to the botanical garden, one of the reason: tho test my MK2 along the S20 Ultra (Exynos).

Shoot about 60 images with the MK2 and 2 clips, about 90 images wit the S20 Ultra and about 5 clips (slomo).

Both devices was getting hot while I keept them all the time on, the MK2 terminated the camera app by itself, the S20 Ultra not.

From the heat, the S20 Ultra was really hot, naked, without case. The MK2 also hot, but with case, so I can't really tell wich one was hotter. 

Screen, outside in sunny weather, the MK2 wit the Pro app was barely usable, with the normal camera app a little better. The S20 Ultra had no problems with the screen (but as wrote, really hot).

Battery consumption: both started with almost 100% (MK2 98% / S20 Ultra 96%).

After shooting all the things with it, the MK2 has 83% left, the S20 Ultra 63%.

So, what were the changes you made to the II camera, that has improved your shots?

I disabled the QR Scanner in the Main Camera App.

I am really satisfied with the output from my MK2!

That's a nice image. No doubt the MK2 produces great natural colours.

I tried your suggestion, here's a picture in auto mode with QR on and off.
