Poor clarity from image taken with Photo Pro

Can someone please explain to me why a phone being touted as having the most advanced camera system on phone produces images with with such poor detail!? I took both pictures below with P-mode in Photo Pro.

The first image has dynamic range turned on and the second auto-HDR. I know the photos are being comprised due to being JPEGs but level of clarity is not up good. My Pixel 2, which I upgraded from to 1ii, would capture much more detail in it's pictures. I know there is a lot of computational work going on, but still, I'd expect much more from a flagship phone priced at £1100!

I hope these and all the other issues (ironic all to do with cameras) are fixed soon!20200630_210546.JPG20200630_210557.JPG

As I already wrote before, I am very pleased with the output from my Xperia 1 MK2, so all my initial complains about the camera systems are history, well, almost all.

Here one more, OOC:batch_DSC_0050.JPG

Another good shot. Remind me what mode you're using?

In the last days I used mostly the Pro App in Auto or P mode with sometimes manual adjustments to EV.

I knew it wasn't the phone

Most are unaware of how to use a phone in DSLR way, due to them never owning a fully manual DSLR.

95% of issues like photos are rubbish etc, is down to the user and not appreciating that there is a learning curve with stuff like this, but once mastered it is better than any Samdung AI.

The way I describe it is: Phone AI is for game console peasants (fun considering Sony do consoles too) who cannot be bothered to enter into the richness of doing things for yourself.

Sony Camera PRO is like the GLORIOUS PC Master Race who wish to use the BEST AI in existence, the human imagination. They know (just like the pc) that they want to use the phone as a TOOL to learn and grow with (just like a PC) and not just like  a games console (SAMSUNG AI) where everything is worked out for them and presented on a plate.

Nothing more true (GilgameshUK)! Cheers for that!

But sometimes Sony needs to make better processing at certain ISO levels with their own sensors because in some older Xperia devices are shining. For example XA1 devices can reproduce thanks to some Api2 processing (maybe non intended by Sony) that can get almost true to life quality. Z3+ the same, X performance, etc. Sometimes the quality of ISO by Api2, Hal1 and 3. Mostly when first upgrades are made, Sony, you should know that this kind of details can make many people stay away form Xperia. MI note 10 is better?! Samsung S20+?! NO! But for balancing ISO and stacking auto can fool many. Sony have so much to give but sometime its camera processing won't let users have the full potential of the sensor (even smaller ones). So for these three 2020 devices, Sony should let an impeccable Api2 processing. 1II should be the best 2020 after updates and raw adding (some older devices had raw in Api2 and some third party could shot in raw XA2 family for example in the first upgrades of Oreo) why to stop this Sony while Xperia is recovering in the market? So better ISO processing and letting raw and more Api2 functions in all 2020 devices it's really a must from now on.

Sony we are a bunch of die hard fans, we know what we are saying, please improve!

Thank you!

I do not agree with the opionion of GilgameshUK.

It is a cheap excause for a company not able to support the "majority" and the enthusiasts.

Exept Sony must sell a lot of phones to earn money. It will be stupid when ignore this.

And, as a console, smartphone and PC player, i like it when i have both options. With my Sony Alpha 6x i have both options, better Sony will go with the Xperia 1 II the same way.

Perhaps upcoming firmware will add some conveniance :slight_smile: features for quick and good shots and make all modes usable in both apps.

Personally I do not think that Sony will ever do a full auto AI , it looks to be against their company ethos.

Perhaps the best of both worlds would be to have a great AI in the standard app (for the "Console minded")

and have the CameraPro for those who are "PC minded"

I like unlike otherbrands that Sony tries to credit people with some intelligence and it subtly forces the user to actually do things manually, I like that ethos to be honest. By forcing the user to adapt to learn and to work things out for themselves, makes them a better photographer.

Another good analogy to use would be:

I have been working in the IT Industry  for 25 years(Im 2x UK Overclocking champion and won many awards)

Those who first learned how to use a computer by using MS-DOS

and those who started with windows 95 and above

Those who were forced to use MS-DOS (I started with DOS 3.1 on a 8086) are generally LIGHT YEARS ahead of those who started learning computers with Windows and why?

MS DOS forced one to know exactly HOW your memory worked and why

Many hours of writing auto exec bat multi config files such as;

Loadhigh=c:\dos.exe ,umb

Config.sys

DEVICEHIGH=c:\dos\EMM386.EXE /ram highscan etc

#Me personally -unlike other brands i like how Sony credits you with some intelligence and allows you to play  , there is a learning curve.

I still have the xperia 1 ,but if i had the mk ii I recon I could learn to take great photos within a week (mind you i'm used to DSLR'S anyway)

But as i said SONY SHOULD up their game in the regular app for those who are a little slower in learning and or coming from a phone made by "SuperSaf's bosses" =Samsung

Its with hopes you get the idea: I simply love Sony's philosophy, that they credit you with common sense.

I have been a member of these and the original sony's forums for a for a long while now and 95% of the people screaming that it was Sony's fault (re Xperia1) about this and that, was actually their own failure.

Last note: Anyone who has actually bothered to view my channel will know that I am keen to point out Sony's faults and where they can improve, however I am open enough to give them fair credit when it's due.

I just don't think its fair for those who just cannot learn the Camerapro to automatically blame Sony.

Hahahaha....that one was good: "Loadhigh=c:\dos.exe ,umb" 😂

Those good old days never come back. Sony was Made in Japan and standed for high quality, it was the No. 1 in all electronics around the world. I had a lot of Sony gear, including the "Rolly", the very special MP3 player wit touch - keys and build in 20/40GB HDD, also many other devices. Actually still owning and using the very special Vaio - PC:

(Sony VAIO SVL2412Z1EB) with build in 3D Screen (working without glasses).

So i understand what u meant.
