I just got a new A7C with a 24mm 1.4 GM lens. When I tried out the video mode I ran into a problem that I can't find a solution for.
It seems like the in-camera mic is picking up the sound of the lens, but it is not the usual mechanical focusing sounds that other people are referring to. It is a pretty electronic high pitch sound that sounds just like the stations on the radio would be changed: https://youtu.be/OzXdvuftmi4
I tried updating the lens, turning on/off autofocus, changing modes, dialling down mic sensitivity, turning off all the wifi and Bluetooth etc. When I take the lens off, the interference sound is gone, but that seems to be the only thing. The lens hasn’t been damaged.
Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?
Hi,
That's normal behaviour - the high pitch sound is probably coming from the linear motor which sounds like this.
I would recommend an external microphone to get rid of this noise.
Cheers
Peter
Hi,
Have you tried a different lens? Does the sound go a away using an external microphone as well?
