Bravia 43EX8005 hand contoller and background "messages"

The scrolling function on my 43EX8005 hand controller stopped working, all other bits of it are ok, which means there are quite a few functions I currently cannot use. I bought a "One for All" replacement but that has the same problem. I also have acquired a female voice at the start of every programme and at power-up giving numerical information followed by the "music volume setting". I have rebooted the set several times and the handset which has had no effect.

I believe the female voice you're referring to is an accessibility feature of the TV, have you tried holding the mute button for 3 seconds? I believe this was the shortcut for it.

Hi watermanwillie,

Welcome to the community.

I'll see if I can find anything out for you - maybe someone else in the community can help in the meantime.

Thanks,

Hi watermanwillie

I'd suggest testing the original remote using the following steps: http://bit.ly/34bVrHP

If you confirm that the buttons actually works, try resetting the TV to factory settings: http://bit.ly/2Sk45lB

The outcome will either be that the issue is resolved, or if the IR sensor in the TV has become somehow faulty, repair may be required. So keep that in mind.

Thanks for the info, I cannot test the remote in the way you suggest as
my i-phone won't co-operate however, all else but the circular cursor
ring works. I bought a One for All as a replacement, thinking the Sony
was dead but that has exactly the same problem.
I have tried the softer reset described in "Help" but that didn't make
any difference so in the next 24 hours or so, I will pluck p my courage
to do the hard, factory reset you describe....!

Sincere thanks to Joe Dohn!

I tried it and the result was a loss of the (annoying) commentary on music volume and app but also a return of the functionality of the scroll button on the remote! I shall be very careful around the mute button in future.
