Bravia control

I have a kd-49xg9005. Is it possible to disable the Bravia MHL control to stop the tv automatically changing inputs? I do not want to stop some of the other Bravia functions.

Hi @iany1954

Assuming that you mean HDMI Control (CEC) then you can manage it through External Inputs, Bravia Sync Settings in the Settings. However it is probably best to turn it off in your connected devices if that is to stop those changing inputs. Note MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) is a reserved HDMI port for connecting smartphones etc.

Thanks for the response. I’m actually controlling my system with a Harmony remote. I have a situation where I have the Harmony turn on the STR-DH790 only to allow it to play Bluetooth from an external device. If I then use the Harmony to turn on the tv (STR-DH790 stays on) the  STR-DH790 will I incorrectly change input after a short time period (when the tv has finished its start up procedure). I need HDMI control enabled to ensure that the audio is correctly routed. If the STR-DH790 and tv are powered on at the same time the problem does not appear! I think it’s a function of the way the Harmony operates and the inability of the tv to avoid channel change via HDMI.

Hi @iany1954

Perhaps a image of your Harmony startup activity (Customise this Activity) would help us understand. What does the STR-DH790 change to once the TV is up and running?

I use a Harmony Elite and this is my Freeview Activity which works with all HDMI Control switched on. HT-ZF9 is a Sony soundbar.

Hi, I’ll do some experimenting tomorrow to try to establish exactly what is happening. My start up routines are similar and it may be that I can do something in this area. I have Bluetooth, dvd, and Youview inputs to the STR-DH790 as well as TV (arc through HDMI). I’ll report more later.

It seems like it’s the tv. If I use the Harmony to set the STR-DH790 to use bluetooth (Alexa) this leaves the tv, DVD player and youview off. I then use the tv controller to turn the tv on after 1 to 2 seconds the STR-DH790 changes input to Mediabox. It must be a signal from the tv via hdmi which causes the STR-DH790 to change input. If the tv and STR-DH790 switch on together the 2 second on delay for the STR-DH790 avoids input corruption by the tv. I’ll try adding a sequence to the activities that forces the correct input to be set after the erroneous tv signal.

As it seems like the tv is overwriting the amplifier input select I decided to add an extra step on Harmony activity start up. However, input selection is not available as a start up command so I reprogrammed the ‘MOVIE’ button to be ‘TV’ input select. I then added a 2 second delay followed by the ‘MOVIE (TV)’ command. 2 seconds because this seems to work! This now seems to function correctly but time will tell.

Sorry about the crude screenshot but I’m using two different machines!

Ok, I think I now have something that works reliably. Again time will tell. However using the activity startup as before I have set the delay for SMART TV to 15 seconds and 3 seconds for SATELLITE TV and FREEVIEW TV. For some reason the SMART TV sends an incorrect input request to the amplifier up to 12 seconds after the tv has been switched on. SAT and FREE seem ok with 3 seconds. Note that these are all when the system uses ARC (audio return channel) through the HDMI amplifier to tv connection.
