Hello - My KD-55XF8096 will not auto update the firmware...Yes I have Autoupdate set to on, but when I manually check for whether there is an update, the TV tells me it's at the latest version - But it's at PKG6.5830.0205EUA..

When I check on Sony site, the latest version is v6.6510, so mine looks quite a bit older..

Do I need to use a USB  ?

v6,6510 has only just been released. You can update manually using a USB stick immediately. However it is normal for Sony to delay the auto update for several weeks before it is made available to everyone.

Hi - Thanks for that info..!!

Looks like there are other versions prior to v6.6510 that the TV should have picked up though..

 

I might look into the USB option anyway..

Hi @Redeye66   When I say only recently released, it was only 3 days ago :slight_smile:

 

The release version prior to v6.6510 was 6.5830 so you have not missed out on any updates.

I am also on v5830, but having downloaded and unziped 6510 onto a usb stick as I have done previously, inserting it just brings up the Android screen for USB Connected, inviting me to Open with Album, Music, Video etc and to register device storage and eject. Also a point of note, it only shows the first letter of the volume name "S" when infact the drive volume name is "Scandisk".  Anyway...

 

I have tried numerous USB drives, they all do the same.

 

The Check for updates in Settings, About, System software update, Software update also just says "Your software is up to date"

 

It obviously is not seeing a difference between 5830 and 6510.

So is there a way to force the update from the USB?

As long as you have followed the instructions to the letter and you have just one file (.pkg) in the root of your USB then you could try. 1) Insert the USB drive into the TV and wait. If nothing happens or opens an app then 2) Hold down the power button on the Remote for 10 seconds or so until the screen displays Power off. With a little luck it should reboot and then start the firmware upgrade. If it doesn't work then you need to review the instructions again as something is not right.

 

If the automatic update is not available yet it means it has not been released for automatic update (it could take weeks if not months) for your country/region. Nothing to do with the difference between 5830 and 6510.

Thanks for the swift reply.

 

All that happened there, is inserting the USB, same inviting to view photos etc.  Power button, did indeed reset the TV, but it just went to the home screen.

 

I have done exactly what was done before and indeed, barring the hidden OS folders of Android and Lost DIR, then the .pkg file is all that is on the stick.

 

I will try formatting on another machine and copy the .pkg (which I have extracted from multiple downloaded zip in case of corruption), but as I see it, the process I have taken is the same as previously, but some failing in the TV OS is not recognising the version differnces.

 

Is there a way to eastablish a checksum / hash code of the extracted .pkg to make sure it is not corrupted in some way or for Sony to confirm the update from 5830 to 6510 does indeed work as expected?

Hi @Cliffo4 

 

I would make sure the USB is completely empty (no hidden file or folders). The name and size of the zip file is shown in the instructions to verify it is not corrupted. This is before you extract the .pkg file. Note I normally format my USB to NTFS.

 

Before you insert the USB I would do a Soft Reboot first (hold down power button for 10 seconds etc.). If you are really keen you could try a factory reset first. Perhaps there is something loaded or running that is stopping it.

 

If there was a general problem with the update, we would see loads of posts on here. I updated my KD-55XE9305 using the USB method on day one (22 May).

 

If all else fails you may have to wait until the auto-update stream is rolled out for your country/region. You could contact Sony UK Support but they will probably tell you to wait.
