Remote control upgrades (KD-55XD8577)

Is there a remote control upgrade available for these tv sets?

I think that the remote controls for these tv sets are shockingly bad.  They eat through a set of batteries in a couple of weeks of regular use and if you are not pointing the thing directly at the television you can't get any functionality out of it.  It is by far the worst remote control I've ever used.  Even my Sky remote will work on its set top box when operating behind the box.

Surely Sony didn't deliberately set out to make these remotes that bad or, could it be how the the IR sensor is set in the tv set?

Hi Chomerly,

It looks like there is only one official remote control for this TV (the RMF-TX200E). If you'd like more info about using the remote you'll find a help guide here.

Best wishes,

Hi EdwinaU,

Yes.  That is the remote that came with my tv when I purchased it.  It's just so bad it's not even funny.  It eats through batteries easily within a couple of weeks of regular use, and for comparison, my Sky remote has the same batteries in it from the day I had Sky installed.  Just over two years ago.

One of the worst things about it though is if you don't have the thing pointed directly at the television when trying to use it can result in hit or miss results. Mostly miss.  It wouldn't be so bad if it used Bluetooth as it's connection method, much like an Amazon fireatick remote does I believe, instead of the standard infrared that this thing uses.

Hi @chomerly. Perhaps you don’t realise that if it is eating batteries then this is not normal and must be defective. Assuming you are still within your guarantee you should return it for a replacement.
