Sony Bravia tv bricked?

Hi, Sony 4k tv stopped responding to remote, voice control would still work though. Did a factory reset hoping that would cure it… sadly not.. all I have done is bricked my telly as it won’t go off the welcome setup screen as the remote won’t work. Have checked and getting a signal from the remote, checked with phone.

Getting a universal remote to check that’s not the issue.

but any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Spuddbcfc

The starting point for any request for help is the full model number of your TV. It will start with KD or XR.

There are several 3rd party Sony Remote Apps that you could try while waiting for another remote.

However, if it is not the remote then it does sound like you may have to contact Sony Support. It sounds like you have already tried the obvious steps.

Check the remote has a clear line of sight to the sensor on the TV; no soundbar in the way, sensor may want a wipe.

If your sensor, or a light driven off it on the set, normally flashes to acknowledge remote signals, is this still happening but the TV isn’t responding, or is there no flashing at all, just the steady light?

Also, you may be able to reset the remote; take the batteries out, press the Power button it it for three seconds, then wait for a couple of minutes, put the batteries back, try again. Or maybe something cleverer in the Sony documentation? At least worth a try.

I’d look it up for you, but as @LightFoot remarks, we don’t know which TV it is 😢

This is my model number, and the One for All Sony remote is also failing to oblige.

The issue is that I can’t get off the Welcome screen to connect to wifi to connect to my app. I did a factory reset from the App hoping that would cure the issue.

Any way of just using it  as a telly and not having to go through the rigmarole of setting up?

Direct line of sight to the telly, have just cleaned the telly as well..

Sony Remote does not flash and don’t usually get anything flashing  on the telly. The one for all is flashing on the remote but nothing..

Hi @Spuddbcfc   Any chance that you can connect the TV by Ethernet? If it is possible then you can connect to it by IP address.

The last TV we had that would work without a remote was one of these:-

Even just as a telly, you need the remote to conveniently change channel or alter the volume.

Though there is a set of three buttons on the back of the TV, on the left looked at from the back of the TV, that may give you some control:-

(Power) /+/–
When the TV is off,
Press to power on.
When the TV is on,
Press and hold to power off.
Press repeatedly to change the function,
then press + or button to:
• Adjust the volume.
• Select the channel.
• Select the input source of TV.
? is the power button symbol, which won’t reproduce here).

Thanks for the responses…

Ethernet cable connected and using the Sony remote app It can see the tv and pick the device the IP address is correct , but sadly still no control over the menu options….

Must admit thought using the buttons would also do something in the way of scrolling through the options but not…

luckily it’s still in warranty so hopefully someone will come out and replace the IR unit as it can only be that…

The All-In-One you mean, make sure it really has been set up correctly for Sony TVs?

Might be worth a pop….
