HX9V Firmware update PLEASE!

Dear SONY,

I've recently bought this amazing camera. I've changed from DSLR, because the size and handling wasn't comfortable for family photos. I think You've done very good job with this product, to put in great features in a single device.

However, I suppose, the hardware deserves a new firmware.

The biggest problem is a noise reduction, what makes the details and colors of pictures smudged. It should be good to set the level of NR by user.

Another important and missing function to save pictures in RAW. I'm sure the hardware can handle this correctly, providing great images.

As I've found on the net, most of users and testers would wish this upgrade, to make the camera more useable.

Please, inform Us about the progress of firmware development, because I hope it worth to wait for a good news.

Thanks for Your help, and answers

Best regards,

as above, the high end hx9 deserves better than low file size poor quality jpegs, raw would be nice but not needed if jpeg has some control options.

Hello Simon,

I'm a bit disappointed reading Your answer sounds like a clische.

You know, I'd like a detailed answer, not just like ... "thanks for Your feedback, that is very imortant for Us, and... etc, etc". It's an old school phrase.

Could You ask the development team of this product, and inform Us about:

- is there a plan to make any developement or improvement on this product (hx9v)?

- if yes, how the process goes?

- how soon may the public expect any tangible result?

- if no, why not?

Sorry about my courious, but I think the SONY cannot leave their customers alone. (especially, when lot of users expect - and waiting for - the same changes) :slight_frown:

Thanks for Your real help,

Best regards

Zoltan

I bought a Sony HD camcorder 2-3 years ago. In my experience, Sony rarely release firmware updates for their products. If the item you have bought does not fit your requirements you should return it. Any end user suggestions will probably get fed into future products rather than existing ones.

Hello gazz1e,

Thanks for Your comment.

You've right.

Yes, as I see on the net, many user sad, SONY doesn't care to make any improvements on existing product after sale.

It's sad, ... but maybe.

Thanks again,

Z.

Sony cater for the masses and are not interested in writing firmware updates for the 10% of enthusiast users, that would bother using the new features........

As said previously, if you wanted RAW and adjustable JPEG compression, then maybe another camera would have been a better buy?

Having said that I agree with your comments and perhaps assumed naively that these features would have been standard. My first Pentax camera had both, back in 2003, but then Pentax are in my opinion, more of a specialist camera manufacturer and understand the needs of their enthusiast users better?

Come on Sony, get your act together on this

Perhaps some creative individual can provide these features "unofficially" ??:smileymischief:

The HX9V is a good camera, but could be great with a few adjustments.

If you are looking for a firmware update this forum is probably not the place to ask.  I asked four weeks ago if there was a way for the movie files to be numbered sequentially.  I am still waiting for an answer.  I notice someone else on here asked if there was a way to adjust the sharpening and was told to set the focus to manual or read the instructions!

I doubt any of the moderators have even held the camera.

Hello!

I just bought this camera and seems OK except the noise reduction which is so strong.

Unfortunatelly I saw these topics regardind NR too late...

I don''t understand why is so hard to implement this function in a new firmware..and why nobody want to answer to this question.

I read about this problem also on other forums (too late for me).

At least please answer SONY !

Regards

Marius
