Giga Juke

I have a sony giga juke.  It will not turn on using the remote - it is showing a blue flashing light as if it is in standby but the controls on the unit or the remote will not work.  This happended before and I had to turn it off at the mains.  Has anyone had this problem.

Steve,

To be honest what you are describing sounds how mine has always behaved (even before the September issues) and on mine it is simpy down to the crappy wireless receiver in the CS5 unit losing the network periodically.

Have you tried putting it in the same room as your router and seeing if it behaves any better?

I have and its no better. Kinda defeats the object of it being in the same room

The Sony Tech seems to think its the BT home hub. Whilst I went with their recommendations I wasnt hopeful based onthe facts it worked (to a fashion) prior to the recent troubles. I cannot recall in the 3 years I have had the Gigajuke ever having to reset or reboot it.

It had the life whipped out of it the last couple of months.

I am seriously going to consider whether to purchase Sony goods in future. They do not seem as robust as previous years. And Im talking as a professional user as well as privately.

Gigajuke Issue exposed in Hifi News & Record Review.!!!!!!

On page 95 of the January HFN you will see a one page article about the issues of being at the mercy of equipment manufacturers who control your product Software via thier Servers and Suppliers.

You will be pleased to know it Mentions the Gigajuke with a link to this forum posting and also uses words like the product becomming a brick. Perhaps now Sony will start to listen.

Regards

Alan

PS I get my HFN on subscription, so it might not be in the shops for a few days.

Time for humble pie!

Working with the Sony tech specialist convergence we identified the BT Home Hub 2 was the issue behind my particular problem with the CS5 unit not seeing the Gigajuke unless it was reset.

I replaced the HH2 with a Voyager 2100 and the Gigajuke and CS5 are now best friends!

It still cannot "see the Internet" but it works.

Thanks Will.

Start the car.

I still can not get my damn slave box to connect to the home network.

I have attampted to bback up all the stored music from the thing on to an external hard drive and it can not reconise that so will not transfer the files.

So in desperation I plugged my mp3 player in (which I have done loads of times and used it to import and export) and it cant reconise that either.

I am not going to wipe all my music and then go throught the hassle of importing it all one at a time cos the stupid thing won't reconise my external devices so what the helll am I supposed to do.

I have been being helped by other users on here more than by sony and it is disgusting I WANT AN ANSWER I AM SICK OF THIS NOW

I DEMAND AN ANSWER AND HELP FROM YOU

Hi StartTheCar

I have been reading some of your post regarding issues with thw Gigajuke.  One of your suggestions was to go to http://192.168.1.5:64321/MediaServer.xml

When I do this in either Firefox or IE9 I get the following

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below

Is there a solution for this.  Also are there any other 'tricks' like this hidden on the Gigajuke?

Thanks and regards

Anthony

IP addrress now ends in 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still can not find any info out on the ip address on my comp.

my extender unit is now showing the nas55hd and is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!even in party mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Iam now too scared to turn it off!

so it is staying as it is until after my husbands 50th celebrations on 27th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If i find the fix isn't permanant I may b e back.

Its bloody odd though as all we did was put it in another room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a giga duke owner and I do not believe I have to undertake the complex "fixes" described in this forum. I paid good money for the unit from what is supposed to be a highly reputable company. I had high expectations and these have not been met.

This is a defective product and should be recalled. No questions asked. I read in some of the links that some have complained to watchdog but it is not clear how to do this. Can I suggest ALL POSTERS here and visitors to this page go to "BBC watchdog" page. Find HAVE YOU GOT A STORY. Under "select a subject" choose "House and home" under sub category choose "electrical appliances". Just tell it like it is. I suggest you call for a full refund or a recall of the unit. The watchdog team should do the rest.

Dont let sony get away with this. Saying "sorry" and "we will try to fix it" is not good enough if they want to be regarded as a high quality company.

So Mr car fix sony man what I want to hear is " Dear customer please send your unit back and we will give you your money"

So what you are saying is that when you loose your wireless connection to the internet you are not going to reset it and reconnect which means that there will be one less fool using it.

If you do not attempt the fix and prove it is not working you do not have a leg to stand on.

All the people who had the issues do not seem to be complaining that theres are not working since the carried out the fix.

Have decided that you are my entertainment for the new year I look forward to reading your rubbish
