I have a sony giga juke. It will not turn on using the remote - it is showing a blue flashing light as if it is in standby but the controls on the unit or the remote will not work. This happended before and I had to turn it off at the mains. Has anyone had this problem.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Mine is a NAS-S55HDE
connected to router (more powerful signal than the AOSS device) by wired connection
and two NAS-C5E units as well
Hasn't worked properly since mid-September; have tried all the 'temporary fixes' and they are just that
I'm using an NAS-S55HDE
the reason it is in 'standby mode' not 'quick start-up' is that in 'quick start-up' any key pressed on my TV's remote control (also a Sony) sets the cooling fan in the GigaJuke going for a few seconds; it's very distracting.
Hi incase it helps we too have the NAS S55HDE with one slave box.
Maybe someone more technical can make something of this but an odd thing happened.
As I have said before we have been having the same probs as u all and not been connected to the internet .
Now the first I realised there was a prob (back in sept) was when I tried to copy a new cd onto the hard drive and it told me it couldnt find the title info as wasnt connected to the net, now in a interesting developement:
I have NOT tried the new temp fix as advised by Sony but during the 4hrs I was on the phone to cust services 3 weeks ago so much was done to the thing that I am not sure where to begin but in either a fluke or something else we managed to get connected to the web for about 10 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and download the cd info.
Its gone again now.
This was on sat.
So maybe Sony were playing and something happened maybe its was a fluje.
But I thought I had better put the info up for the boffins in japan to see just incase they did something.
I am really gutted that we are having these probs with it as it really is a great bit of kit and for the 10mins it worked on sat I remebered why we spent so much money on the blasted thing.
Please Sony hurry as the festive time is nearly upon us and everyone will be wanting to rip their xmas cd pressies onto their hard drives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My hubby especially
I'm using an NAS-S55HDE
I cannot understand what is taking Sony so long with this! My Gigajuke is with a Sony Service agent for repair AS THIS IS WHAT SONY advised to do. Now they admit it is an issue external to the Gigajuke.
Why is it taking so long to ascertain the issue?
Surely if the coded "auto NTP server" address is wrong, why if it is unreachable is this locking the box?
Why cant Sony just release a patch to have it point to pool.ntp.org or remove the NTP altogether?
Im sure most people could suffer the Gracenote issue until Gracenote resolve this, at least the Ggajuke would work. I personally find the Gigajuke too slow in ripping CDs so I rip my CDs via PC and transfer on USB stick, this way you get the CD album image too. I like many others also have the extender box which is practically useless without the main Gigajuke. (It isn't much cop without the Gigajuke, Limited Internet stations, no FM/DAB but thats another story!)
Have the Sony Techs run a wireshark trace on the boxes to see what is going on? I would have done this by now but as I have advised, I have sent my box to Sony repair agent! There seems little actual facts re the full problem around.
I thought Sony would have learnt lessons after the PS3 debarcle but alas.
Lack of communication is the main cause of contention in a service issue. The bigger the company, the less communication and service tends to be offered for some reason. Perhaps they feel they are too large and important to have to try too hard.
This forum is a classic case in point. Not a single word from Sony all day. Their temporary fix did not work. The forum is tagged as 'Answered' so it looks as if the issue is resolved. Customers who have paid around £800 or more for systems that no longer perform their function have either found this forum and are waiting for answers, or have not found this forum, think their system is faulty, and are contacting Sony Customer Service and being told god knows what.
I would expect at least a daily update on what is happening, even if it is to say that there is no change. As it is the lack of communication, and therfore seemingly lack of concern and customer service, is appalling.
Hi Sphinxxxxx
The correct answer I put up did explain that it was marked as such to capture as many of you as possible and I would change the status if and when the status changed.
Clearly the community is getting mixed results from the temp fix. However, we have now tested both NAS-SC500 & NAS-S55 over the last week, after applying this fix, and both have continued to work and have not locked up once.
They are both production models, connected directly into a standard home router (wired and wireless have been used)
As far as we can tell, the fix is working, however, there is clearly a difference in our set-up/environment from those still having problems. In order to investigate further, can I ask those forum member whose machines are still locking up the following:.
1: Are you using the supplied wireless station (router) or an independent home router?
2: Do you also have a NAS-SC5 client as part of your set-up?
Despite the scepticism, we do pay attention to the forums and when something like this crops up we will step in and do all we can to help. While I would love to be able to provide a direct reply to every post, this simply isn’t possible and was certainly never the intention or ambition of this forum; which was always meant to be a customer forum.
As always, if you have any specific questions you can PM me directly, however, if you think it could be useful to the community please continue to post it here; we will read them.
Best regards
Lee

Hello StartTheCar,
Indeed thanks for replying to these threads with these temporary fixes. But from what I can see is that it sounds like you and the guy who came up with this temporary fix are Technical Support guys trying to use the menu system to provide some temporary relief. It's really the developers of the product that should be investigating this problem and providing a concrete answer to why the product has failed in this way.
We just seem to be getting very woolly answers for a fix with no explanation of what has really caused the problem and therefore many people have serious doubts over whether the list of steps to fix actually do any good at all.
Can someone at Sony please step up with an answer on what the problem really is causing this issue and refrain from providing fluffy solutions to a question that really hasn't been answered.
For me, this is the really frustrating thing about this whole fiasco.
Hi StartTheCar
In response to your questions:
1) I am using the supplied wireless station.
2) I do have a client as part of the set up - NAS-C5E.
I am also using the supplied wireless adaptor.
My broadband connection is via Virgin Media cable.
Hope this all helps to sort out this situation.
tobler2, I doubt any of your answers help.
The fact is that your setup hasn't changed.
Something in the GigaJuke software has malfunctioned due to external dependencies, and until Sony revert this temporary fix from their boxes and report on the genuine fault at the heart of the matter, we're all lost in space.
Hi StartTheCar,
Thank you for responding, it is a shame that I had to post my dissatisfaction for you to do so, but nevertheless - thank you. I did not suggest you, or a Sony representative, shoud reply to every post. Merely that the forum shoudl be updated at least once per day.
From the responses on this forum from people trying to use their systems on a day to day basis, I would say that the temporary fix does not work on a long term basis. No question there. In my case, the fix does not prolong the time I can use the system until it locks up. I also think previous forum posters are correct, we need some definitive responses from the technicians who can permanently resolve this problem. We need to understand why this has happened, most importantly how we can use our systems again, and what either we, or Sony, can do to ensure there is no repeat.
For info, I am using an independent home router, the supplied wireless dongle, and have the NAS-SC5 as part of my set-up. I can confirm that my set-up has not changed in the 3 years I have been using the Giga Juke.
