My new Sony BDP-S780 will only output PCM even though I have set the HDMI setting to Auto. How do I get it to output all the other sound formats?

Hi
I managed to solve the problem. The player is plugged via HDMI straight into a Pioneeer LX SC83 AV Amp.
Went to Settings - Audi - Downmix - set to Surround. This is not intuitive at first sight.
Hi,
far as i can make out thats correct if your connected via HDMI to your tv, however you have not said anything to say that your connected to an AV reciever via HDMI or not, if your reciever has no HDMI use a digital coax lead from your blu ray to your av then go to set up/ audio settings set DD to DD, and DTS to DTS and so on and that should do it.
I had same problem. S780 was connected to Onkyo AV reciver TX-SR578 using Hi-Speed HDMI cable, but there were not "bitstream audio" from BD available using whatever configuration. DVDs work well and other lower audio formats from BD also. We test with buyer that fault was in S780 because buyers S380 works fine in his enviroment (Onkyo TX-SR-579) using my discs but S780 didn't.
Sony change my player to newer BDP-S790, but there is same fault in my configuration. I have old CRT TV (yet) in my living room and I have to use CVBS video from S790 to TV SCART. Even I use only audio output HDMI from S790 to AV rereiver, S790 doesn't send bitstrem to it. If I change my TV to newer which have a HDMI input (like my sons Philips PC monitor), also bitstream works.
There must be some kind of software bug in Sony because selecting video does influence what audio you can use. I report that to Sony Support but they didn't gave any answer, help or even case number for further needs.
