I bought the Sony UBP-X800 UHD Blu-Ray player when it first came out thinking I was doing the right thing. After all my Sony TV has received regular updates to make sure it can cope with different formats and sources. Now I discover that Sony can't update this player to Dolby Vision because the chip isn't able to cope.
I know that you can never guarantee future-proofing with any product but I feel ripped off that just one year later Sony has brought out a new UHD player with Dolby Vision. I emailed Sony's CEO just to express my disappointment politely - of course not expecting anything to change but just to give feedback on letting loyal customers down. Just to make the point. No response or acknowledgement even from anyone in Sony.
Not what you hope for from a respected brand like Sony.
Hi @bobt47
You should note that this is a user community so the vast majority of people are just fellow customers. However you may see the lesser spotted Sony employee on very rare occasions, normally just making announcements. You can recognise them as they have the “sony” logo in their user name.
If you are looking for an answer from Sony then you should contact Sony UK Support .
Hi Bob47
No dont work for Sony I am retired and my hobby is movies that is why I am upset not being able to update my old x800 causing me to buy the x800m2 I only stick with Sony because my amp and TV are sony
Richard
Would be nice if Sony did an trade in scheme to swap your x800 to a x800m2 as a lot of people must feel misled by Sony
Hi
Great idea I am sure they could recall the x800 and fit a new chip now that would be great PR for Sony we can only hope
Richard
Dont think it will ever happen, Sony are more interested in selling you a new player than looking after customers who have already purchased players, so i'm afraid its a case of get your money out again ! Hope i'm wrong though 🤔
Well it is I again and I have news about my x800;
it has died after less than 12 months!!!!
That’s not good I spoke to someone In there technical department and was looking at buying one of there 75” tvs with Dolby Vision an was assured my X-800 had Dolby Vision
