My vaio was shipped with vista home premium 32bit.
Is this common place on laptops which are 64 bit?
It's a vaio vgn nr21z core duo t8100.
Would it make much difference if i bought the upgraded os and if so how?
Hi Johnston411 and welcome.
Although a few have installed the 64-bit version, this is really only for dedicated enthusiasts because the 64-bit system is not fully supported yet by the hardware/software manufacturers. You would have to become a real detective and hunt down the 64-bit drivers, if they all exist.
Sony do not support 64-bit systems and you would lose your support from Sony and your warranty. You would have to reinstall the original 32-bit system before making any claim!
I don't think any mainstream PC manufacturers supply a 64-bit model yet. Quite honestly, there is little advantage at the moment because most of the speed gain is offset by the bigger operating system and memory required by it to run the system in 64-bits.
I would wait a couple of years until there is support for the 64-bit system - unless you are a real Geek.

Cheers for your answer.
I'll give it a miss for a bit.
