Additional RAM for Vaio SZ2XP

Hi everyone,

I have just buyed a brand new Sony Vaio SZ2XP and I'm just curious, if it is to possible to add some more memory. I'm quite sure that it is possible, but can I buy some non-Sony memory modules, which will fit in to my Vaio?

Hi jakubd.

You need DDR2 PC2 5300 DDR2 667mhz modules. Your Vaio can take up to 2048MB of RAM.

You probably have 2 X 512MB fitted - so you will need a 2GB kit.

Try CRUCIAL.COM

Do I understand it correctly, that it is possible to use non-original Vaio modules? I was kind of freaking-out, when I found out that the original Vaio RAM module costs 400€/512MB...

Hi jakubd,

Yes you can use non-sony RAM and if you buy from Crucial.com as per Blencogo's link they will guarantee that it is compatible with your Vaio..

See there site for further details...:smileywink:

OK, thank you both, guys...

I'm already registred, waiting for my salary ;-). And another good news for me is the fact, that one memory slot is actually free so I don't have to buy a set of two 1GB modules...

Good Luck jakubd,

I don't feel guilty about recommending a good supplier like Crucial even though this is a Sony forum. Sony pricing on these is immoral if not actually criminal.

As far as I can see, Sony buy in the memory modules from other suppliers like Samsung, add 300% and sell them as Vaio accessories!!

Hey

To my SZ2VP I bought a KINGSTON 1GB M12864E40 for about €1300 and it seem to work OK even though it was quite tricky to stick it in (had to use massive force!!)

Cheers:smileycool:

I was thinking about Kingston as well, but I'm scared of using massive force on my Vaio, which is everything but cheap ;-).

But I'll visit my supplier first and have look at those Kingston memories, 1GB costs 2700CZK (appr. 90€) and if it won't work then I'll order one module for Crucial.com, 120€ with shipping is still acceptable.

Just for info, 512MB original Sony module cost 10 000 CZK (appr. 340€) in Czech Republic...

Hi guys,

I looked at memoryx.net and found memory for only 100$, which is much cheaper than on Crucial.com. Does anyone have some experiencies with this online store?

I'm interesting in shipping to Europe - how much does it usually cost and how long does it take...

Thanks,
jakubd
