not sure if its set up like this in vista but i will give you an xp method that might help.
go to start>connect to>show all connections (its probably the network connections in the vista control panel).
from the list of network connections check if the ethernet (usually described as Local Area Connection) is enabled. if it already is then maybe you can try disabling and re-enabling the connection. hope this helps
