My new All-in-One VPCJ23SIE/B doesn't recognise my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV22E. Consequently, I have accumulated boxes of Mini DV tapes and can't load them into Movie Maker applications. Is it conceivable that there doesn't yet exist a driver which works with Windows 7? Or is there a driver lurking somewhere that I haven't stumbled across yet. I hope there is someone out there who can enlighten this struggling user reliant on somewhat rudimentary knowledge. Please help - impatient grandchildren waiting to view their DVDs. Thanks, John.
download the drivers from the Sony's web support...

Life is too serious to be taken seriously
Hi adsys and welcome.
As you guessed, there is no driver that will connect by USB with computers using Vista or Windows 7. The solution is usually easy - use a DV (aka iLink, Firewire) cable from the DV Output on your camera to the iLink input on your PC and import using Movie Maker. iLink is generically supported in Windows, so no driver is required.
Unfortunately, in common with many new computers produced in the last few years, your J23-Series Vaio does not have an iLink port and, worse still, it does not have an ExpressCard slot which would enable you to fit an iLink Card.
As Far as I can see, the J23 Vaio can only import Video through the USB Ports. Unless anyone else can think of some clever alternative, you are going to need some extra hardware. You can get a Firewire to USB cable - but this will not work.
I think you will need the the A/V Connecting Cable that was supplied with the camera. This has 3 RCA jack plugs (Y/R/W) on one end and a 3.5mm three way jack on the camera end. This will export the video and sound from your TRV22E in an analogue format. You will then need an Analogue Video Captire device to convert this analogue video to digital - in a format that can be imported using the USB ports. It is not the best solution as the signal is being converted to and from analogue which may lose some quality.
Google for Video Capture devices - you can get them from £10 to £100. Take your pick : -
Sorry I can't think of anything simpler.
